That's exactly the reason my Dad waited until he was 80 until he retired. He was convinced he wouldn't last long if he retired.
I don't think I can claim that. I didn't want him beforehand, hated the idea of us getting him and was gutted when he signed. I did briefly accept he'd been given the job and we needed to get behind him but I never had confidence in him and when he came out with that statement, I was back to not wanting him. (maintained calling him Woy or Owl Face throughout though)
I can verify I've died and come back to haunt @Bumps with an inundation of lexicographical esoterica.
True, too many to list, but they were more a preference whereas I really didn't want Woy. Nothing against the guy (at the time), just really don't like negative managers. Got example, despite the trophies, I was happy when Houllier left.
I respected Houllier for bringing a measure of discipline back to the club and making sure footballers knew they were footballers and not media personalities (I still cringe at footballers in TV ads), and turning round the perpetual under-achievers that we'd become. Yes, his negative tactics wore me down, but I shudder to think where we'd have ended up without him.
I was completely baffled when Roy was appointed, baffled the whole time he was here and remain baffled that we ever went anywhere near him.
Obvious why he was appointed; he was a yes man and H&G didn't have a clue or want the aggravation. But your right from a footballing perspective, never made any sense.
well i have had an out if body experience in which i could see myself on the bed with my mum sitting in the hospital room and she started crying when my dad came in .Some time later they were telling me how i had nearly died and they did a night vigil and were quite disconcerted when i went "oh was that when " and described the whole scene since i was no longer conscious and not expected to make it through the night. Make of that what you will .
Sven being part of manager team for legends game at Anfield. Nice touch. Always seemed a nice enough bloke and was unfortunate became England manager at a time when the press were desperate to ruin anyone’s career.
