Look at Caicedo signing for Chelsea over us. His motivation was clearly not winning things. There are a lot of similar examples. Also, the collective desire I was talking about isn't solely about winning things. What were we likely to win in Klopp's first season? Yet he instilled, almost instantly, a desire to give everything for the team, the club and the fans. The message being - do that consistently and (the bi-product is that) you will win things.
I'm happy! Fully don't expect to be top (maybe not even top two) by the end of the season, but I'm happy, we've done better so far this season than I expected.

There are now prime candidates for the drop They have 5 points to everton but everton appeal could reduce the points deduction and jump them out of danger. Next is luton who have a superior GD and its 4 points to the drop then. then its forest who face a points deduction. Palace are on the slow march down just like Leicester were last season.
Its weird, because Parish, the Chairman, is a minority stakeholder, but somehow wields all the power. The major stakeholder wants to put money in, but Parish won't let them.
Certainly can. It's one of those things under-pinning my argument for positivity that seems to annoy some people. I was willing to give Hodgson a chance when he got the job, but the moment he said that I wanted him out. It's the attitude of an also-ran, not a winner. Aim for the top, and if you fail at least you'll be somewhere near it - the acceptance of mediocrity just isn't good enough. Of course there's a difference in potential between Palace and Liverpool, but in every case you have to strive to be the best you can be. We have the potential at least to be winners, and we should be aiming for nothing less.
I think we all said he's a nice man and give him a chance cos we are bang in trouble. I do think these days he'd be ran out of town before he'd arrive such is the storm that arises over every little thing

He got a rep for transforming Fulham and taking them to the Europey final. I wanted them to win it, but I was disappointed in the negative way they approached the game. That in itself should have warned me about what was to come, but everything's easy in hindsight.
At some point Hodgson will realise that he's done as much in the game as he's capable of and see a nice pair of slippers and a reclining chair with his name on.
After keeping palace up last year he should have retired and gone out on a high and with respect of fans. Instead he’s now probably going to get sacked or just see out rest of season in toxic environment with fans wanting him gone - even if he does keep them up which prob will mainly due to teams below being really poor.
totally agree. he just enjoys being on a training pitch or something. I don't get it anyway he is 76 years old people are dropping round him like flies at that age. FFS go take the stress off and do something in your last 4 or 5 years before the care home! Seriously how many people have we heard of in 2024 who've died younger? he has to be a multi millionaire with no reason bar he feels the need to be doing this stuff. his wife should be wanting it stopped.
We all know I'm not a fan as Roy the manager. I wouldn't be happy if I were a Palace fan, but at this point if I were the owner of Palace I probably wouldn't knee-jerk, but I'd be keeping my eyes open for a good replacement and moving when the time is right. As long as there is a little cushion, the ideal time to get a new manager in is May, not February. Unless relegation becomes a real danger, just hang on to useless Roy for a few more months and make a move for someone better when the season ends. (unless someone good becomes available before then... maybe put in a few phone calls). No need to knee-jerk. A manager should last for many years to establish a team, you want to make a good choice, and if you're Crystal Palace you don't have the option to just poach someone from any other team. No doubt Roy should go, but maybe doesn't have to be right now. At least wait until we play them again.
His devotion to the game is admirable in one sense, but baffling in another. It must be in his blood and he can't give it up. There are people who have professions that they will continue in until they drop because it's more a way of life than a job. But, unlike a musician, writer or artist, say - a football manager has too many others reliant on his ability to do the job, too many who will suffer from his inability to keep up.
Perhaps his missus prefers it this way - all that hooting and dragging in half a mouse all the time probably wears you down.
by the same token lots of men of his generation in particular seemed to decline quite rapidly on retirement .
