Regardless of optimism or pessimism I strongly believe that in order to have a chance of winning the league we cannot afford to lose the game against City at Anfield

that win will not mean we are going to win the league but a loss would certainly go a long way to stopping it

I fully expect City to win their game in hand - which means that when the games are levelled out we will more likely be 1 point behind

to get in front we will probably need to win against City now where as had we beaten Arsenal we possibly would not have needed the result against City as much

surprisingly I can see both sides here

Glad we got three points yesterday, but it reinforced my view that we'll drop more points before the end of the season. This team is still developing - it's not the team of 2022, let alone the team of those two seasons 2018/19 and 2019/20. I see us getting 85 points at most now, which is damn good. realistically, I think it'll be nearer 80, which is almost certainly CL qualification and 2nd or 3rd place. We'd have taken that at the start of the season.

But as far as the title goes, well we'll have to beat City, not draw with them, just to still be in the fight in April, IMO. That said, I truly didn't see us still in it after New Year at the beginning of the season, so to still be top in mid-Feb is an outstanding effort. CL, UEFA Cup in Dublin, and one (or both!) of the domestic cups would be sound. Just hope that we don't go and get 80 points, and for the first time in ages apart from 2020 City don't get 90+ points and win it on 83 points or something.

Did West Ham think the first half was only 40 mins long or something?

it's now done so a "real" 8 point gap with superior gd to 5th.

utd also have the happy feeling of finally being safe from relegation

we need another 16 points for 70.

a good little run now and cl qualification will be put ro bed and other better targets can be focused on.

How villa lost that game is beyond me. Emery ****ed it by taking Bailey off. Had lindeloff on toast and suddenly he comes off and lose all threat and momentum.

Big win for united though. Brings them back into convo for 4th/5th.

emry is by nature a defensive coach. he might have accepted 1-1 as a good result?

really all that matters is the gap to the nowhere zone has increased for us and that can only be a good thing.

Our expectations keep rising and rising and rising to the point where anything less than perfection is unacceptable. How many of us, at the start of the season, being told we would be top of the league in February, would have laughed? Yet here we are and some of us are already less than happy because we're not far enough ahead.

With the summer rebuild, I'd say that we're ahead of schedule. I'm enjoying watching the different ways this team finds to win.

I'm still happy with 4th and the europa ;)

    everything is awesome over here.

Not only that but a league cup final as well.

improvement requires demanding more and thats what klopp brings. work, belief, drive and as he said he he can't bring 100% someone else has to.

Its all about work ethic and making the first option a forward pass for me. usually when we play bad it is because the work rate isn't' high enough up the park or the passing is slow, too many touches and too much safe play. If you play vertical rather than lateral things happen.

Lateral for control and time wasting. Vertical to score goals.

I'd have been a little sceptical perhaps, but I certainly wouldn't have laughed at the idea.

    Agree with much of that.

It's about desire, collective desire. We've seen teams who don't have it, fall apart and teams who aren't strong, capitalise on it. It's one of the things some people are worried about that when Klopp goes, the collective desire will go with him. It is a big reason why we have to get the appointment of his successor right.
