Yesterday’s events are already chip paper for me..let’s just say we didn’t turn up. What I find more intriguing for want of a better word is with all these new arrivals at his disposal now I get the impression Rosenior doesn’t know his best starting eleven yet or how they are best suited to his system and probably won’t do for a few more games. The big Turk has already come out and made his statements about his belief in Rosenior’s vision so I don’t see any change short term at least and looking at the table I can understand that ..for now.

This, exactly. It took him a good while at the start of the season, now he doesn't have that much time. And players might start to wonder if they'll be getting a game next week which can't help. I get occasional flashbacks to the Ramirez, ben Arfa days when we seemed to have more midfielders than we knew what to do with...
How many teams in this division actually have a Best XI out of interest? It can't help if players don't know if they'll get a game? What on earth? That's precisely what should help. Players should be playing for their spot each and every week and the threat of not starting the next game should be motivating them to perform.
I might be wrong, but i think the underlying point might have been more about us having a still unbalanced squad, with an overload of similar (mostly lightweight, technical) players for a limited number of positions. Natural 'holding' midfielders are Seri and Morton. Tufan played at international level there, but doesn't for us (for some reason). Others like Slater and Doc can play there if needed. Attacking midfielders, be they No 10's or wider players, are Tufan (but see above), Doc (he came here as an attacking midfielder, with a decent strike on him), Traore, Philogene, Carvahlo, Omur, Zahoury. And Slater, the epitome of a utility squad player at this level. The 'big' signings are just the latest incarnations of a growing list of disappointments in those positions that for some reason we couldn't get to work out. Hmmn. So that's 6 'big' signings, making 7 decent players, arguably 8, for 3 positions now. Perhaps we'd have been better to use 1 or 2 places to add some real steel & quality elsewhere. And, having looked at the OWS squad list, just wondering what the heck has happened to Covil?!?
Curious what you make of a squad like Soton or Leeds' then. They have quite a lot of players who can play in the same attacking positions. Leicester too. Think until recently Cannon had barely had a minute for them since his move, and before that, Daka had only played a few minutes before injuries to Iheanacho and Vardy. The underlying point seemed to be that LR has no clue what his side should be and that will unsettle the players which just seems a really weird stick to bash him with as if he should have XI comfortable players rocking up each week knowing they'll play no matter what. In fact I thought there were complaints from some on here that some players got to do that! Now we're complaining that they don't get to do that?
Of course players should be playing for their place but what if they're not? What if they're not as committed to Hull City as we'd like them to be? What if they're a bit browned off playing a system that they feel isn't enhancing their future prospects? What if the loanees are thinking they'll tread water for a bit, not get injured then leg it back to their PL clubs at season end? I'm not saying this is the case, hope to god it isn't, but just because they 'should' doesn't always mean that they 'will'. Re which teams know their best 11, I've no idea, don't really care.
Just being a bit circumspect, that's all. Apropos of nothing really but I've picked up 2 expressions today I'd never heard before. One is 'a break glass' kind of spot, the other is 'drawing a long bow'. Must be Aussie-talk?
It wasn't really my point, so not so much for me to answer, just my take on what the underlying point might have been. Having said that, as I've mentioned a few times, we seem overloaded in one area and with these 'lighter-weight technical type players'. Simple question, who is our #1 number 10? Then we need another one as back up, not several. I honestly don't know! Maybe it's Carvahlo now, who isn't ours yet it's such a key position and we already had talent for that position? It's maybe partly Acun & Tan throwing toys at Rosenior, but tbh it seems more that that is the sort of player Rosenior thinks we need (as he's said as much). Who is our main No 10? The balance just doesn't seem right to me. Where 's the steel (for want of better, fuller description). We too often get out bullied / out muscled all over the pitch (bar Coyle, who get's done in other ways).
Carvalho is the main number 10. Tufan is back up. Omur can play there but suspect primarily will be a depth option out wide while he settles in.
Seri would be on the bench and if we were losing we would bring him on. Thus in the emergency of losing we would 'break glass'. Surprised you've never heard of someone drawing a long bow but fair enough. It's certainly not exclusively Australian. EDIT: In fact it looks like it originates with Robin Hood.
