    You're not missing much!

Stargate is a terrible , terrible tv series.

    Apologies to Star Trek/Stargate fans.

You know how they say your life flashes before your eyes before you die?

That's exactly what Gerry Anderson saw before he popped his cloggs.

Whilst this thread is de-railed can I just share a vision of the future I had the other night?

I had a dream that I had one brain but two bodies, that I was able to transport my consciousness from one to the other with the blink of an eye. Whilst I was 'in' one body, the other was pretty much in 'standby', capable of only basic functions but otherwise useless.

I was at work and I decided to 'blink' to my other body and have a day out. It was vague but I remember heading to Alton Towers with a ladyfriend (who had no real life counterpart) on a bus. I closed my eyes, pretended to be asleep then blinked back to my body at work to find a menial task which my drone self could just about manage, stacking boxes.

I blinked back to the bus and 'woke up' and had a bit chat before we got to the themepark. I remember it being rather fun but the girl was a little distant (kinda a different story when it comes to reading dreams and largely irrelevant), though we still enjoyed the ride. The time flew by until I remembered my body at work. I blinked back and there I was, getting a bollocking from my boss for slacking. Knowing I was probably going to get the sack I blinked back to the girl and enjoyed the rest of my day.

    It got me thinking.

Parcels of human memory can be stored externally, great research is being done in the reading of brainwaves, to the point that very basic 'mind projections' have taken place (a person thinks of something, an image appears on a screen). As such, it's concievable that one day a person's memory can be 'backed up' onto a hard drive. If it is broken down into large data files then surely those can be transferrable?

If you were to have an artificial body, a robotic one, surely then that memory data could be transferred to it? So you could send your memories over to another body and therefore 'you' will have teleported, as it will know everything you knew right up until the point you 'blinked'.

My question is, would that transferred data be you? Would you experience it or would it be artifical life that simply shares everything with you in common?

I would say that's still artificial life as it's everything BUT you. It's got your memories and everything but that still doesn't make it properly human.

That's ****ing disturbing. Surely waterboarding would be a more humane way of getting us to talk?
