Sunderland: Michael Beale on ex-Tottenham winger Romaine Mundle https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/s...ael-beale-ex-tottenham-winger-romaine-mundle/ By Dominic Shaw AS MUCH as Michael Beale was excited by the signing of Romaine Mundle, Sunderland's head coach anticipated the winger's lack of football in the first half of the season with Standard Liege meant time would be required before the Black Cats started to see the best of the former Tottenham youngster. Beale has quickly changed his mind…. "He wants to play and he wants to play now - he's shown that in training," said Beale. He's shown it in a match environment too. Mundle got an hour under his belt for the Under-21s on Monday night in the win over Bristol City and looked sharp and exciting and he's already "right at the front" of Beale's thoughts. "He's surprised me," admitted the head coach. "He hasn't played much football so I was probably of the opinion that it was going to take a bit of time, but having watched him in training I think his intention is completely different. "The first impression has been very good. I saw the game on Monday and he showed a bit of what he can bring, I think he'd prefer to play off the left but he can also play through the middle or off the right. We're going to have to come up with a few things that surprise the opponent between now and the end of the season and he certainly comes into that." "The thing is, Jack has been so strong that there is a bus queue of people who'd like to play there. I think Abdoullah (Ba) would if you asked him, certainly Romaine would, Adil (Aouchiche) could as well," said Beale. "What we're really good at as a club is giving young players an opportunity and what we need in return is a lot of responsibility - in terms of how they train, live and what they bring to our environment. "Romaine is a different player to Jack, he's more explosive and more of a runner off the ball than Jack. Let's not talk about losing Jack, I'm glad that window is closed and he's here. "I'd like to think they could play together and that's the challenge for our attacking players - can we find the right balance defensively so you can all play together? "It sounds great and I see all the teams picked outside this building, but the balance would be the concern. "If they can all contribute out of possession with our pressing, there's no reason why you couldn't play Jack, Romaine, Abdoullah, Adil behind a striker. That's an exciting thought, but maybe for both teams, so we'll see." Sunderland are looking to extend their unbeaten stretch to three games when Plymouth visit the Stadium of Light tomorrow, with Argyle having played a gruelling 120 minutes in their FA Cup defeat to Leeds in midweek. Beale said: "They have done really well and they're a dangerous team. They score a lot of goals, certainly at home and I thought over their two games with Leeds they have done well, but the game slipped away from them late on. "It'll be a tough challenge. I think we're at that stage of the season now where everyone's playing for something."
If that was a Mowbray statement I think we'd all be pleased, I am. It seems he's looking at everyone and everything. Above all he's including everyone and even remembering their names
And I would have shown a lot more effort than Burstow and I’m nearly three times his age. Better for us to develop our own than Chelsea’s.
Hopefully we start with RTBs team and get straight at em Get Rigg, Mundle on around the 60 mark… maybe Hemir late on for Rusyn anway. Going for a thumping home win tomorrow : 5-0 to the lads, **** it!
You have competition mate ... ... I just hope it's the same difference in the teams Interesting that they haven't given up on thev play-offs though. https://pasoti.co.uk/threads/sunderland-v-argyle-the-build-up.126915/
Back to normal predictions lads. 7-3 to the cuddlies. Every chance we get tomorrow we score. Rusyn x 2, JC x 2, O9, Mundle and Hemir on as sub. Unfortunately I wont be there. Manflu has got a right good grip of me. Hopefully another 40000 there and 3 points would be fab. Cheers once again RTB. I really think you should be in the honours lists for your dedication and superb write ups.
Looking forward to tomorrow. Not going, got a bedroom to gut. But will have an old school day of footy on the wireless! Has to be Rusyn through the middle you would think. Stick with Ba, he is holding the wide position well and stretching the game for us, meaning Clarke has a target when on the ball. Hoping we see a bit of Rigg tomorrow as well and it sounds like Beale likes the look of Mundle. Think I said before but a youth coach at Spurs told me we have a proper player. Hoping we play just Neil deeper and let Ekwah push on. I like Plymouth as a side. Loads of respect for the way they look after coaches too. Hardie for me is a real threat and Whittaker obviously is. Love the lad Randle in midfield as well. Should be a good game, but I am hoping we are ready to put a little run together and the talk about Beale is kept quiet.
Been a hectic week working away so haven’t had much time to think. Settled now and looking forward to the game tomorrow. Another good crowd expected. Ha’way the lads!
Gutted I am missing it like. Going to try and catch the second half on the way to Heathrow. Hopefully we are 3 to the good by then
Will be watching this at 11 tonight because of time difference but really am confident as I think Beale is starting to have an effect on the team. I still think we are a bit too defensive at times which can become frustrating as we all know how attacking and free flowing we can be. However I just thinknwe will have a little bit too much for these today.
Up early for some daft reason and looking forward to the match. Hoping we go with the team @RTB has put up with Mundle, Adil, Rigg and Hemir to get some minutes second half after we have battered them and are 3 nil up and cruising.
Just back from holiday, Met 3 safc while I was away and 0 Plymouth so naturally that equates to a 3-0 lads win, Rusyn, Hume and I’m going for a hemir late strike to wrap it up
Home win with Rusyn and Clarke to score, not sure on our other scorers. 1200 Pilgrims expected(which is a tremendous effort) so another 40k crowd. HTL KTF
Great thread @RTB - thanks again. I like the team you put out, and I think we'll have a riot on the pitch today Hawaaaaaay
The pub pub for pre match pints is calling, always good to catch up with the branch lads and chew over the up coming game and what's gone on in the week.
