Political correspondent on News At Ten summed it up for me - commenting on Netanyahu's latest diatribe on the forthcoming purge of Rafa ... to paraphrase:

"Will the IDF response since 7th October make Israel a safer place? - very unlikely - indeed, just how many new recruits will 'Hamas' be gaining as a result of what has happened since then?"

And eventually, that’s what will happen. That’s actually pretty clear to anyone who understands the history of the region. Because conceding the Crimea to Ukraine would not be acceptable to any Russian leader.

If Putin is eventually replaced by someone more reasonable, that fact still won’t change. And if Ukraine backed by the US tries to continue this war until they “get back” what was, in the eyes of all of Russia, never really theirs, the war won’t ever end.

I still think that the Russians will kill Zelensky at some point and then it will be all over. It’s a stalemate now and that will be the golden goal in extra time.

Not out of the question that someone kills Putin.

There's plenty of Russians that would like to see him gone too.

Getting close enough might be a problem. But not for God or Mother Nature.

    This ^^^

As with Crimea, Russia will try to expand and annexe those territories back into something that resembled the old USSR, if they managed to win the war with Ukraine.

If you live in any of those aforementioned countries, then you have every right to be ****tin it and getting prepared for a possible incursion.

I also agree that as westerners, we can support Ukraine's right to fight, without having to volunteer ourselves to go and die for them. That's just a complete misnomer

Combat Organization of Anarcho-Communists (or BOAK, an acronym of its Russian name), Stop the Wagons (STW), Freedom of Russia Legion, and the far-right Russian Volunteer Corps (RVC). These are Russian Guerrilla groups that would depose of him through force.

Then there are also various anti-putin protest groups.

A lot of people who take to the streets to protest though are arrested. I think something like 1300 were arrested for attending an anti-war demo in Russia recently

There's a sizeable undercurrent of anti-putin sentiment. There's also a sizeable effort from Putin to put it down though.

So no more than any democratic system - people hate the Tories but they've still been in power over a decade. People hate Trump but he's still trying to stand again. Millions protest in the UK over Gaza, it's changed nothing. Then there's Netanyahu, hate changes nothing lol.

We don’t really have Guerrilla groups trying to overthrow the Tories though. Although maybe we should lol. Russia isn’t really a true democracy either, as much as Putin would like to portray that it is. Because the last bloke to stand against him Navelny was given a 20 year prison sentence for extremeism.

Or you end up eating a novichok sandwich or end up getting your plane blown out of the sky like the Wagner group leader.

Putin literally co created the Russian NATO partnership and spoke in the early 2000s on Russian television about RUSSIA joining NATO, integrating with Europe and so on.

He himself opened the floodgates for Eastern nations linking with NATO and EU.

    Poking <laugh>

No but we have politicians who have to wear stab vests Mike Freer, we have had politicians who have been killed by nut jobs Sir David Amess, Jo Cox. The IRA tried to blow up Thatcher even many years ago. So democracy has similar problems. The Tories have and are still bringing rules that hinder your right to protest , we've got protestors in prison just for climbing a bridge lol. America has a history of assassinated Presidents. Oh and let's not forget Guy Fawkes in our history.

    Isn't really a true democracy?

Why you being so soft lol.

Russia isn't a democracy at all.

Only federally selected candidates are even allowed to run and votes are stuffed.

Well that’s what I mean. Putin tries to portray it as a democracy with elections. But you end up with radiation poisoning if you dare to oppose him

Two candidates so far have gotten a bit of pace and they oppose the war in Ukraine.

The female candidate was told by the electoral commission, on television.

"You are young, you have children. You should consider your options."

    The democratic Russian Federation.
