Pete Smurthwaite is selling the club after more than 23 years running it, to spend more time with his family.
Will have a go on Euromillions and if it comes up. I was at Brid Town’s first game in 1959. First thing I would do is change their colours back to black and amber. Not a big fan of Pete Smurthwaite but he has done a good job to keep them going. Without him they would have folded some time ago.
Is Brid Trinity still going? When I was a kid, it was a big rivalry, although Town was always the bigger team!
Folded years ago. Due to the actions of Town’s chairman Ken Richardson playing silly buggers over the ground. Even when Trinity were in higher divisions than Town the crowds at Town were two or three times bigger.
Can’t see it. The ones who would love to don’t have the money to run it and the few with enough money won’t be interested.
GtF … Sydney head of everything….he just knows more than us….accept it…or spend 5 days arguing about it
Brendon's ace. He wasn't impressed with the Allams as he saw the decline of the club from the inside as well as how they treated people away from the public eye, well before many on the outside caught onto them. But he's always been pro City despite strangely being a Middlesbrough fan first, and it's great that he's back involved again now.
Pete Smurthwaite is one of the nicest and most genuine people I have ever met. When I was released by city at 16 and a bit lost and directionless he signed me for brid, picked me up for training and games and offered me a job at PBS. I didn’t stay at brid long as ex Bristol rovers keeper Gav Kelly was number 1 and I wasn’t good enough to displace him and I didn’t wanna play for the ressies. I also didn’t take the job at PBS because I managed to get myself an apprenticeship at BP. But I will always remember that kindness. Just a genuine bloke who wanted to help out a young lad annd get him into the real world after his lofty dreams of being a footballer were shattered. Top bloke and I hope he enjoys his retirement for club ownership.
Still see Gav Kelly around now and again. Good goalie and a decent bloke. The best ever commentary at a City game when he was our keeper and the commentator said it looked like a certain goal until Kelly suddenly popped up like a quick growing radish.
