Little bit before my time..... but I can imagine what it must of been like when this came on in the clubs..... any memories?
I was 14/15 when this came out. At that age between not quite a kid and not quite a young adult. Summer was long, phones were new and left in draws and you knocked on for your mates... and most of all, songs like this were quirky and now 25 years later, absolutely drenched in nostalgia.
A singing expert reviewed this (disturbed) and noticed they used auto tune once, and they didn't need to, plus, believe it or not, David was loaded with cold when he sang this effortlessly while sat on a stool. Absolutely class.
Ironically in the song Ironic, nothing she says is the definition of Irony... looking back it should've been called "Tough ****". Jokes aside, cracking song.
Absolutely mate. They show the range of beliefs and contradictions in the man ... ... he liked to show his strength but wasn't scared to show his weaknesses.
Loved Cash since I was about 8..My uncle used to play loads of his stuff in the car. He must have played "A boy named sue" a hundred times for me. After that, as you do, I asked for CDs and likes. His music is still class and Johnny didn't give a ****e what anyone thought other than June. "Man in black" is a very important song, however I think the importance of it never seems to be considered when songs about change and seeing what's wrong with the world are being lorded over. He was a poet with a guitar. Class. Pure class.
I love everything he's done, even the corny stuff. But it's his deepest darkest later music that hits the hardest, This, imo, is brave and open, I'll have it played at my funeral. It borrows from the Book of Revelations which is some powerful stuff whether you 'believe' or not.
