Lets not bother with another thread for what is tantamount to the same fixture as this one and just a continuation.
Argyle have a little sickness in the squad....Dan Scarr missed the squad on Saturday.....and Ashley Phillips wasn't to good earlier in the week although he played Saturday. Although Joe Edwards wasn't in the Saturday team or bench it isn't thought that he wasn't fit...so maybe just being rested with the Leeds game in mind. But the Cup replay on Tuesday might find us wanting.....we know that Jordan Houghton will miss the game because of an ankle injury.....also Mustapha Bundu missed Saturday because a calf injury and might be out for the next two games. Alfie Devine, Adam Forshaw, Darko Gyabi & Lino Sousa cannot play for not being eligible for various reasons. So that could be six players missing from a squad that isn't the biggest in the League....and against Leeds who have a large squad to pick from....and they have had an extra day to get over their last League game.
Better Chelsea than Aston Villa which would leave us without Sousa as well as those cup-tied through having played in the cup for other clubs.
Argyle...1-4...Leeds....F/T. Understrength Argyle squad...outgunned by stronger Leeds substitutes. Played their hearts out....and could have snatched a win with a last second corner at 90 minutes......but not to be.
Yep outplayed for a lot of the time but I do think 4 - 1 is a bit harsh. That Brazilian player for them cost more than the whole Argyle squad put together so the standard on the pitch for most of the game from them was Premiership rather than Championship. The one thing you can say is that it wasn't for the lack of trying by the Argyle boys and they looked totally out of it at the end. What a **** night weather wise and good job I didn't attempt to go. A little worry is Saturday and how far away they have to travel after tonights game. Sunderland must be laughing all the way to kick off.
A 1-4 a score line is a harsh judgement on Argyle’s performance but quite a few legs had gone by the end under the strain of keeping Leeds at bay. None of the youngsters disgraced themselves by any means but as Leeds brought on their strongest players we were bringing on teenagers. We had 6 on the bench including 3 teens: they had 9 including internationals. There’s no disgrace in this, and perhaps we’re better off without another game. It’s the league that counts. A gutsy performance in awful conditions. We’ve taken Leeds to a replay and for 100 minutes (190 if you count the first game) kept them honest.
PS I’m not criticising the club for its recruitment either. We’ve got unlucky and had to bring more players in in January than was probably expected. As a result, we’ve got players who are cup-tied.
Said Brazilian when I should have said French but sentiment is the same. We recruit for the league not cup games so no criticism from me there.
It is early days and perhaps I’m seeing what I want to see but I think the new squad under Foster looks harder to beat than we’ve been for quite a while. He nailed it when he said that we score goals at the rate of a promotion team and concede them at the rate of a relegation candidate. Recognising a problem is half way to solving it…..
No you aren't seeing things. We are more organised and resilient at the back. Tonight we played very young players against a second half of top notch players who would do very well in the premiership. The scoreline at the end was through fatigue rather than lack of ability from us. I don't think you can judge Argyle badly from this as a league side.
The Argyle Man of the Match tells the story I think. It’s arrived at by a poll of fans and often the winner has 50 or 60 percent of the vote. Last night, it went: Galloway 20% Sorinola 26% Philips 23% Randell 32% (subject to rounding presumably). That close result reflects what a strong team performance it was. Nobody let us down until the legs started to go. Randell was brilliant I thought. Tough in the tackle and spraying some good passes around. Galloway too though: having him back playing at this level shows you what we’ve missed through his injuries. I think Joe Edwards was unlucky not even to get a nomination. Reverted to playing in centre midfield, which he’s rarely if ever done at Argyle, and put in his usual non-stop performance. I don’t know how long he’ll go on playing but there’s no doubt he goes straight into the Argyle Hall Of Fame when he does.
Mrs Plym thought it was unfair that Leeds had so many quality players on the bench......Crysenio Summerville, Joe Gelhardt, Geoginio Rutter, Patrick Bamford, Ethan Ampadu and Krisoffer Klaeson......why are they allowed to do that.....she compared it to cheating........I have tried to explain how relegated Premier teams can be like that...especially if they haven't had to sell their star players because of financial needs. .....and bringing them on when Plymouth player where "knackered" (my word not hers) was so unfair she said. Leeds manager Daniel Farke said..."I was 100% certain that we would win this cup tie because we have done enough in 180 minutes in order to deserve it" I'm sorry Mr Farke but am i missing something here ?....I think the scoreboard said to the contrary....we where level on goals....and that is why we went to extra-time ? Farke was hoping he could win this game by only playing some of his stars from the beginning....but he couldn't and brought on as many as the rules allowed five.....before they did the necessary against a tiring Argyle who had no big guns on their bench to help swing the tie Argyle's way. I hope that we have not picked up anymore injuries because of playing key players for 120+ minutes.....lets hope that Whittaker and Hardie can recover sufficiently for the away trip to Sunderland.....I wouldn't be surprised if Ian Foster kept one or both back until the second half....of course if at H/T we are not losing and he brings them on then he will look a genius....but if we are losing then he will be open to criticism....swings and roundabout come to mind.

well it was cruel come the end, we palyed well and the support was good, the first half was very good both teams hard at it , no time added on no stoppages.. ref was decent. weather was shocking so a wet night for me .. well it should have gone to penalties i feel no extra time after the replay. the team was very tired on a tough surface, there fitness levels will be or shpould be higher. but i was happy at full time then you knew once they started to unload that bench thats it, we had 3 academy u18s on the pitch .. they done ok even tho Roberts was at fault for the 3rd go it was all over by then ,, hopewfully not to tired for the long trip up to Sundeland then we have mid week then saturday then mid week and leeds also again
I see that Mickel Miller’s grandfather died before the game and Pleggy’a pregnant wife was unwell. Thus explains why they didn’t feature on Tuesday.
It's a wonder we managed six players on the bench in the end....so many different reasons to rule out players.
