Yeah. cos it hasn't rained anywhere else in the country has it? Not sure how they manage on the west side of the country that has a far higher rainfall than Hull.

I suspect this is nearer to the truth, and this covenant is being used as a bit of an excuse. But I do go along with those who say the area isn't really big enough to house the academy as well as the first team etc. so in the end, I think we just have to wait to see if we can get to the EPL, then like Luton have with their new stadium set aside an amount of money to help fund the project.

Maybe when they moved to Walton Street a covenant was put in place to stop it being moved again?
Seems odd that Baz would state things like he has done if it were not true?
Hopefully someone takes it up with him and we get to the bottom of what the reality is.

They manage better than us because every ground on the west side of the country has the pitch perfectly aligned with the sun's trajectory. In FACT, most of them even move quite a few degrees during the year so as to best track the sun's changing trajectory during the year. And they have a slight slope so that rain runs off them.
    Apparently.

Why wouldn't the leader of the last Labour council know that before declaring on the front page of the local newspaper that any decision on would have to go to a public referendum? Surely someone at the council would have been aware of it?

He didn't, he said any decision on the sale of the stadium would go to a referendum, he always said the Fair wouldn't be moved.

There's absolutely nothing to prevent development of the stadium, or it's surrounds and if the SMC want a lease extension to accommodate this, the Council are in a position to sort it. It's just Walton Street that's not going to be part of those plans and shouldn't be anyway, as it's a really crap idea (I don't care where the Fair goes and it is a waste of space most of the year, but that's still not a good reason for putting a training complex on it).

I'll admit that. Probably right, although I thought at the time his answer was to Assem Allams request to develop the whole area? Nothing is going to happen with Walton Street so all this is a waste of time and effort.
Perhaps the club should concentrate on promotion first and if they really are genuine on finding new a new training ground, start looking outside of the city boundary and cut the council's involvement out all together?

Here's an angle I've not seen mentioned yet. If the club only want a new training ground it doesn't matter how far away from Hull it is, Melton, Howden, Bishop Burton, all those going there have range rovers, Audi Q7, Bentleys and Rollers.
On the other side developing the area around the stadium could bring benefits to the club and city residents. Could be gym facilities, a swimming pool conference center, a hotel or shops. The transport links are there already. Much like the reason Hull Fair, probably the show man's guild like it being in town it's easy to get too. Moving the fair out to the suburbs makes it less attractive.

Yep I know .... although it's not technically accurate to say "there's absolutely nothing to prevent development of the stadium"!! Even that limited development is likely to be problematic in practice.
All I'm saying (in the earlier post) is, if Baz is correct with what he stated, why don't the Council just come out and clearly state that the fair cannot be moved due to a covenant that prevents it being moved and so further discussion about development that would necessitate moving of the fair is pointless and off the table? It would then stop wasted time and energy for all involved, including us fans.
It seems odd that such clarity has not been given by the council if it is the case?

To be fair, I think most of us already 'get' that other angle. It's the main reason that I think it could be great if the so called 'sports village' around the stadium happened. But, I don't think it ever will, and I think it's only fair (get it?) that we the public now somehow get to the truth about this covenant thing and what the stumbling blocks really are.
I get the calls for a new complex to be built outside of Hull, effectively meaning in ER. But, even though I'm from & in the ER I don't think that's the right thing to do. It's Hull City. The complex should be in Hull, or at least the very near suburbs like Cottingham at a push, not out in villages that are actually miles out of Hull, that are not so easy for the people of Hull to get to (be it to use or to watch). I know many clubs have their complexes well away from their ground but that doesn't make it 'right' for us.

It's exactly what makes it right for us, we're competing with other clubs for players, do we want to drive them to a facility like Burnley's (as an example), or do we want to drive them down Anlaby Road?

    What I wrote was ......

"It's Hull City. I'm not saying it has to be "down Anlaby Road".

Hessle, Willerby, Haltemprice, Cottingham are all effectively 'Hull'. I think it should be in Hull or those suburbs rather than down the A63 in for example Brough. Just my view.

He probably wants to get round a table to say that the fair can’t move, rather than conduct his business via Twitter and podcasts, which is what Cooper and Kessler have done.

Regarding the covenant, I doubt it names Walton Street for the reasons TT mentioned. But it will say that the council is committed annually to providing a suitable site within the city limits, with all the necessary facilities provided. And on the basis that a second suitable site doesn’t exist, and probably never will, that effectively locks the council into the Walton Street site until such time that the fair is disbanded. Which won’t be in our lifetimes.
