I have watched many games where a team goes 1-0 and played fancy football and continued to play fancy football and attack going for the jugular as you put it only to be hit on the break and concede, also loads of games where 1 team has had 17 shots on target and lose 1-0 even though the other team has had say 2. So which ever way the team goes to some it will be on a loser.
Why though because the way we are playing has got us into the top 6 and before the new players we was only a point off the play offs so in fact it does not really have to change does it, i think problem is most supporters just want to see loads of goals big wins especially with the players we have now even though its only been one game with them but the end result is the 3 points however you get them which is what will keep us in the top 6 and hopefully a play off final, unless of course we do have 17 1-0 wins and go up automatically.
I think people are seeing the fact he was at the game sat and putting 2+2 together and coming up with 5.
And what no one else can discuss it , and you was the one who said it has to change if we want promotion i just highlighted we got where we are playing how LR has us playing.
After the first 20 minutes, where we looked on the front-foot and got our press right, I agree with others that we were too pedestrian and lacked urgency. Felt a bit like a training game. Second half I think it continued and we'd be kicking ourselves again if they took one of their half chances towards the end of the game. That being said, we've got back-to-back 1 nil wins, without creating much in either game, so suppose it could be viewed as a positive as not sure we'd have coupled those sort of wins together earlier in the season. I think people are right to want more clear-cut chances, but we've been here before and had a period post-Southampton where we seemed to up the intensity. I think missing Seri and having Slater deeper makes it harder for us to play through midfield, the pitch doesn't help, and we've got a team full of new players or players just coming back from injury. Fingers crossed we continue to pick up these sorts of results until the squad settles.
Just a point but if we have a really good winger he should be occupying two oppos , this should leave space inside or out , we either need to get around him or move well to take the ball . Twine used to and Fabio does this but invariably didnt or don’t get the ball - this needs some coaching attention . Strange game Saturday I cannot recall Jones making one tackle header or pass , not that he didn’t it seemed Greaves was there everytime. Or Jones was that good !
Nobody is arguing we've not had a good season so far, the argument is purely that we could and probably should have more points on the board - even Liam has stated this and it's clearly something he's been frustrated about. He's called out costly mistakes various times this season, particularly recently. The argument on the other side is simply that we'd probably have those additional points and the soft goals would be less of an issue if we stepped up the tempo in attack and put more teams to the sword with the quality we have. We've had a good season so far but not really battered anyone by scoreline. Without stating the obvious, if we carry on with current form, we'll finish 6th, or just outside of the playoff spots. Ideally we'll push on instead to win a few games more comfortably and convincingly and firmly cement ourselves higher up the table - 'safely' in the top 6. If you look at the points we've dropped from good positions this season, we'd already be there now if we hadn't had our pants down. Some of this has been down to ****e refs, but some is down to conceding soft goals or, depending on how you look at it, not scoring enough goals. It's not that we can't shoot... We simply don't create enough chances in too many games. As I said earlier, 3 points is 3 points, so it's not much of an issue when it doesn't matter, but whether people like it or not, if we want to mix it with the best in the league, we need to be creating and scoring from more chances frankly.
If you get 'safely' into the top 6, it allows for two things.... playing for position and second resting players.... we should already be 'comfortably' in the top 6...
Not arguining Benjo i am just saying the way we are going has got us to where we are and may continue to do so, i agree with the fact we have the players to create more chances and possibly score more goals but at the same time what we have done so far has got us to where we are. And in fairness every team in the league will have fans saying they should have more points or out played us even leicester who will say they should have beat us. We have let some soft goals in and there is always the chance we could let some in even if we had alot more chances we see it all the time in games but the fact is we are where we are and hopefully we can cement that come the end of the season.
We're all saying pretty much the same thing. If you drill it down I think it just depends on where each person's onus lies - with stopping the soft goals (which Christie being out seems to have largely sorted tbh) or with scoring more goals.
