Question. Not necessarily aimed at you. Did Willy ever apologise to the fans? He definitely apologised to Farke but not sure if he ever apologised to the club or fans in general. That might have helped his cause.
Agree but Leicester are not a given like most people think a couple of dodgy results they right back in this will it happen who knows but it happened to Ipswich and they've still only lost 3 games all season 2 of them to us! one less than Leicester. so if they have blown it after only losing to 2 teams all season god help us.
Personally thought Gnonto was fine first half as he was showing out wide for Archie Gray to enable us to play out from the back. Numerous times he received the ball in that position and it's not as easy as people think to find the space to do that when marked by your full back. Then he showed ability to either link the play and get us forward or drive for a couple of yards and then lay it off or get fouled. The thing is though my judgement is based on what was before me and a young player who's not had many starts this season. Others seem to be looking for a £30M superstar ripping it up everytime he takes to the pitch, which given the season he's had so far with injuries and outside pressures of his own making is unrealistic. What we saw last night was simply a result of more game time in recent weeks due to the FA Cup and the injury to Dan James which has allowed him to boost his match fitness and get sharper.
I thought their left wing back Cameron Pring had a good game last night. In that first half Gnonto let Pring isolate Gray too often. Luckily Archie managed to get a few decent tackles in and Pring never really got away. Pring pretty much had Gnonto in his pocket 1st half. It looked like Gnonto was told to help out a bit more 2nd half and that's where his defensive work shone. He worked much better 2nd half. Good player is Cameron Pring btw.
you could see the relief from that goal from Willy I thought his little arm was going to come out the socket with the celebration lol. Confidence is a massive thing in football and with the fans singing his name at the end and him returning the gesture with his little dance and jig its seems we are hitting a happy medium. we are with you Willy if you are with us sort of thing. I do agree with gametime too you cant just come on the pitch and turn a game around with 10 mins every player will tell you that playing regular 90 min competitive football every few days than train everyday of the week is a complete different fitness level.
That's the life as a winger as you play cat & mouse with your full back. For the goal when Firpo plays a great ball infield Gnonto chooses to get attacking goalside of his defender which is what enabled him to score. The reverse is if we'd lost possession some would say Gnonto is out of position and wasn't covering the full back. Full credit to Gnonto for winning the game by his positive attacking intent which is what he's selected to do.
That's life as a winger. You play cat and mouse and sometimes you're the cat and sometimes you're the mouse. Gnonto was the mouse first half and the cat the second half. I don't understand how saying Gnonto was better 2nd half than first half can turn in to an argument. Seems some people just want to be awkward for the sake of it.
He only had one touch in the opposition box? Just for clarity, how many touches did his fellow attackers have in the opposition area?
If we are looking at stats let's look at all of them. Attackers stats. Goals. Gnonto - 1. Assists. Bamford - 1. Corners won. Rutter - 2. Summerville - 1. Shots. (On target) Summerville - 6 (2) Rutter - 3 (1) Gnonto - 2 (1) Bamford - 1 (1) Blocked Shots. Summerville - 2 Rutter - 1 Gnonto - 1 Attempted Passes. Summerville - 39 Rutter - 38 Gnonto -26 Bamford - 20 Crosses. Summerville - 3 Gnonto - 1 Bamford - 1 Rutter - 0 Tackles. Rutter - 5 Summerville - 3 Gnonto - 1 Bamford - 0 Fouls won (fouls conceded) Gnonto - 4 (1) Rutter - 2 (1) Summerville - 1(0) Bamford - 0 (0) For the most part it was the Summerville and Rutter show with Bamford quiet. That's pretty much how I rated it just after the game. Seems I know what I'm seeing. please log in to view this image
Please remember it was you who asked if anyone thought Gnonto was good in the first half. Having answered your question you now don't seem to like the debate about it which is all a bit weird
Ok fair dues but I still believe in what I said as even in the Biesla days there's being fit ie in his way Athlete super fit and being match fit. playing a game of competitive football to training is way more physical and you don't get the sharpness as its played alot more faster. yes we had murderball but you don't have the hussle bussle of someone hanging off your backend holding you, fouling you, draining you or trying to put you in row z.
