A transfer window where I didn't expect anyone through the door. Positive signings in my opinion considering our options and lack of depth.
Overall good news I’d say. A permanent striker and a couple of loans for the defensive/midfield set-ups isn’t a bad situation in the end. Like many I was expecting nothing. Let’s hope Marti can get them onto the training pitch today and contributing to some positive results for the last 17 games. Glass half full.
My thought (hope) of the day, many seem to think Hayden is a poor player, I personally have no idea, the same was said of one of my all-time favourites Clint Hill. Let's hope Isaac becomes Clint No. 2 and Shafts the opposition and any doubters on here.
Good news but now it's about match fitness and integration. New dawn or false hope? We'll know soon enough. A draw at Blackburn would be a good result, a win, amazing!
Hodge has to be match fit, he was on the bench last night. Frey has been in dispute, so suspect he isn't but probably could come on as an impact sub Hayden , is injury prone, and I have no real idea...but some one has to play instead of Field....so I suspect he and Dixon Bonner will play half and half. Wonder if we will also get Andersen the Danish winger...who is now a free agent...so can be signed, like Cannon was. My only question is....do the books balance. If not, then this was all for nothing
For God’s sake can some people on here be a tad more positive and at least give Hayden a chance at all before knocking him. The club have tried to pull out all the stops to bring in a few players. We’re broke…this is all we can afford…..get behind the players and the club……leave your negativity somewhere else you Rrrrrsss
agree Nuts. Our team is good enough to stay up, if they have the confidence to do it...and that is a big IF These signings (and andersen if possible) could give us a little extra confidence, skill, desire whatever, that takes us from a team low in confidence that is too scared to a win...to one that can scrape out some points. The board is trying...up to the players now
More up to the manager to instill the confidence and positivity that is lacking and to get the best out of the players at his disposal I would have said, Beth.
I used to be amongst the most positive on here but have been worn down by too many awful performances. Of course we must give Hayden a chance, my disappointment with his signing is that it appears to be just more of the same. Hopefully he will prove me wrong.
Many have tried and been sacked Strolls. Statistics would probably say the squad is the primary problem.
Hi Stroller I’m not signalling anyone specifically out here, just a generic comment to everyone. I think we all forget sometimes how broke we are. To bring in 3 (hopefully 4) players in our financial position is certainly risky. We have what we have now until May. In poker terms, we’re All In, the management and players need us now more than ever. Let’s just suck it up and get behind the team no matter what. IMHO, we can all bitch in May if we go down but not until then.
Definitely. Hayden and Hodge are loans though, so probably the best we could hope to see out the season based on our financial position. Frey is the only permanent signing, so we’ll want to see some real positive impact from him as we have him for the next two seasons too.
You’ve really taken against him, haven’t you? Personally I’m still in the TFINA* tendency. My doubts about Marti are mainly around why on earth he would sign up to this ****show, and on those grounds it would be daft to think he’s anything like a top level coach (yet, hopefully). Appointing Cifuentes, these loans/signings, the rather sad but sincere attempts to save money and raise revenue elsewhere at least mean that Rueben (he’s the only one that counts) hasn’t given up quite yet. And yes the football has still been dire recently. After long and careful thought I don’t think we have very good players. Hayden took Colback’s place in Newcastle’s team a few years ago. Let’s hope calm, measured, sensible Jack doesn’t bear a grudge. Like he does against Sunderland. * Thank **** It’s Not Ainsworth.
I’m an eternal optimist - I think the signings are good and pleased we did it in such a private way. I think Marti is great and we’re lucky to have him. I’m totally sure we’ll stay up and look forward to Marti putting his stamp on things over the summer. Onwards and upwards.
I don't think I've taken against him, I'm just very disappointed in him. I was as enthused by his appointment as anyone else, but disillusionment has set in sooner for me than it has for others it seems. The 'breath of fresh air' after Ainsworth has turned rather stale. We would have gone down under Ainsworth, but it's looking highly likely that we'll go down anyway under Cifuentes (who has had plenty of time to put his stamp on the squad). Presumably he'll be with us next season whatever happens, so hopefully he'll show us what he can do with a squad more of his own choosing.
Fair play Strolls, as I always say, football is about opinions. I for one am quite excited at what Cifuentes can do for our club. After Crichley & Ainsworth, 2 of the worst appointments in our history, we have finally gone with a coach who wants to play the modern game. Our squad lacks quite a bit of quality needed to push on in this league. Hopefully it will have enough to stay up, especially with these signings. Either way, if we go down then let's doing it trying to play football instead of hoof ball.
