Another Brexit benefit pops up - I suspect that the Leave lobby will claim this is just the EU being spiteful... https://www.theguardian.com/science/2024/jan/25/eu-plan-medicine-stockpile-uk-record-shortages?
No lover of many politicians, but to read that a MP has been advised by the police to wear a stab vest fills me with anger at what is happening to our society
Is that Mike Freer? I read that he's standing down at the next election because of death threats - just ridiculous that such things happen in this day and age. Makes you wonder about the mental capacity of the perpetrators.
Yes, the MP that represents Finchley and Golders Green. I could write quite a lot about the situation in the area, but think it's better to hold my tongue.
On all sides..... I have had to break friendship with one friend of Jewish heritage as he became so abusive to me...consumed with anger. I am actually surprised at the lack of disorder in the UK currently around this situation ... Becoming 'interesting' for me as I support the people of Palestine... but also have started working with Hostage International which works with survivors and also the familes of hostages.....
Politics and religion - two topics that probably should never be discussed given their propensity for bringing out the worst in people. And I guess that, in some quarters, football isn't that far behind them both.
Petition to 'Immediately revoke all licences for arms exports to Israel' I can't imagine it being successful - but at least it may have the sods squirming in parliament as they debate it. https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/652949
They are doing what was done to them, and me nana used to say two wronguns don't make a rightun. Sad times.
Jewish law is based on the principle of "an eye for an eye" - that the punishment should not exceed the crime. Sadly they're way beyond that and will probably find a new generation of terrorists coming through in due course. I'll say it: hamas are absolute scum (as anyone else who has read their constitution ought to understand) but the evidence of the past few months shows that the IDF, under the carte blanche orders of the current regime, are really just as bad. Twisted ideology first, people a very poor last, on all sides.
Back then both the UK and US governments were against it being done to them - oddly, now both are in support of them doing it to others. Go figure... It really shouldn't be a case of supporting one side or the other - it should be a case of doing everything that can be done to stop the two sides fighting each other. Sadly, it won't be though - because a) there's too much money involved, and b) because there are too many bloodthirsty, power-mad warmongers in charge of countries - the ones who wouldn't fight themselves but will force others to do the fighting & killing that they crave for them.
I've had friends, and still have, of Jewish heritage (there are quite a few Russian Jews in Germany) and I just keep away from subjects like this one with them - hard to do at times but if you value a persons friendship then that tips the balance. Of course you could say that they don't have to choose to be Zionists and there are many Jews Worldwide who are horrified at what Israel is doing and who don't identify with Israel, but you don't know which camp they fall in when you start a discussion. Friendship is more important than politics.
At some point we have to take sides BB. We created the homeland for the Jews in 1947 in what amounted to a colonial land grab in an area where only 4% of the inhabitants were Jewish and at a time when most Jewish organizations were anti Zionist. We created the state of Israel and to balance that mistake we must now create the state of Palestine, if necessary with UN protection.
I wasn't justifying it, I was merely pointing out the credo. It's an oft misunderstood idea, deliberately so a lot of the time. Rather like creationists wittering on about "survival of the fittest" and usually wilfully misinterpreting it.
Neither Hamas nor the IDF and their political commanders are any better really IMO My heart goes out for the innocent people whose lives have been ruined by what has happened.... and of course it all goes back to 1947...and that makes me so angry
Which would surely be a case of what I said - of doing everything that can be done to stop the two sides fighting each other.
Not just Jewish law Fez - for the loss of an eye the Americans take thousands as shown by recent developments. For the loss of 3 military personnel who never had a right to be there in the first place they bomb 82 sites in two sovereign nations territory - apparently such things as international law are only in place for other countries.
