Overall we have a good squad, but the ownership have left themselves open to criticism for not investing in a striker.
We need to drill some through balls for Rusyn cos he scored some nice goals for the development team !
Yeah he did mate. I know Burstow got that header in the line the other day but his overall performance for me was still lacking significantly. Still would rather player Rusyn and develop him.
He is on loan but we have an option to buy at the end of the season. Not sure if he is still out injured.
I’m sure I saw he was available despite having his appendix out, wouldn’t have expected him to slot straight in anyway to be honest
He’s had his appendix out. That’ll usually keep a player out for 4-6 weeks. Not sure when he had the operation like.
it think it all depends on how the see styles he plays CDM for hungry, but that's my biggest worry more then a striker personal opinion i don't think we create a lot for one so getting another striker in, wouldn't guarantee a change in that , but a decent cdm who could play infront of the defence, was really important for me, and if the don't see styles as that i'll be disappointed, but we've also made beale look abit daft, said we need grey hair players and made are team younger again.
Yeah I know. Don't rate Beale but again, we seem to be ignoring the words of the head coach and doubling down on the model. We have signed some players in last few windows that simply have had no impact whatsoever and have been loaned or sinked into the u21,s with no sniff of first team football. That's my criticism of it all. Mayenda was the best part of a million. Zero chance at first team level. Now loaned out. Benette, zero chance, loaned out. Could even argue Matate, zero chance, loaned out.
Your points about rusyn are spot on, we have a talented striker (forward) there and he needs games to adapt to league. Last season folk just wanted us to sign any striker, in the summer we signed 3 and loaned 1 so they have tried to do something there. The issue has been is non of the ones signed in the summer have hit the ground running so the lack of a striker hasnt been through a lack of trying or investment CDM is an interesting one for me, i think styles can play there but sounds like speakman sees him as a LCM in a 3. Which im fine with if Neil is the CDM - which i think he will be. If Neil keeps his form n fitness until the end of the season then i think we are fine in CM We always have to be careful with signings as we dont want to stop the development of our own players. When you sign young players they will take longer to settle but the reward could be higher Hume cirkin ekwah clarke stewart and o9 all took time to settle 1st before becoming key players for us so i still think the lads we signed in the summer will come good I think the squad has a better balance to it now, itll now be down to what beale can get out of them At the minute id score the transfer window a 7 out of 10 but time will tell if its higher or lower than that
Dont really agree with the zero chance aspect, sending players out on loan can fast track their development if done right which then helps them make an impact quicker for us Henderson had a good loan at coventry before making an impact for us, pickford n patterson has key loans that really helped them I think loaning players out is a great thing We needed more experience and styles def has the experience we were asking for, hjelde has played in the championship n the spl so has played in physical leagues before so we have added a bit of experience to the team
Well, it's done now. Time to get behind the team and crack on. An experienced striker would have been nice, but when Ipswich are playing £30k per week to the likes of Kieffer Moore it shows you were the market is right now. Excited to see Mundle, and hopefully Hjelde and Styles can make an impression too
Loans are great but for me , we are becoming a team that's buying and spending money, to then loan players out. Not improving the immediate first 11 so progress seems to slow or halt. When I say zero chance, I mean zero chance to impress here, in our first 11. I mean Mayenda looked canny, then just loaned out. Then we go and buy a player in the exact same position, similar age with nearly zero mens experience for another million. If this pattern continues , Mundle will probably be out on loan in the summer
Is it not better to loan these lads out, let them get some experience and come back next season to see if they could challenge? Surely better than kicking their heels in the u21s (on the assumption we signed them for their potential)
Why are they not going for 9s though. Why is it always wide towards. Hemir apart over the last 2 years. I know KS loves the wide forward who can play in the middle. Remember the Djaku comments.
It does of the young lads weve signed are better Matete has been replaced by styles who is a lot more experienced than him. If we had kept matete he wouldnt have played much at all as theres at least 5 cms ahead of him so it's right he got game time. Mundle replaces jewi, fair enough he lacks experience but from what ive seen of him is a better player n has higher upside. Jewi wasnt playing anyway so a loan move is sensible n an experienced winger was highly unlikely to come knowing we have clarke roberts n Ba ahead of them Mayenda or hemir needed a loan move as would be 3rd or 4th choice striker so def needed the minutes
Mayenda had a handful of minutes and looked ok, but realistically he's not going to start any games between now and end of the season. It has to benefit him and us by playing every week. It'd be nice to have some players to improve the 1st team, but that's not the model. Only Jobe (and maybe Seelt) have played a significant number of games. Hopefully Aouchiche will get more mins now the poisoned dwarf has gone. Rigg ditto. When you see players like Hume and Ekwah come in and look really raw, but then 12 months later are 1st team players it gives me hope that the likes of Hemir, Aouchiche, Seelt etc can be automatic picks next season (I know that doesn't really help us this year, but it's long term planning)
But we are doing it all the time. How does that improve our team for the here and now ? Buy young, don't get a chance in our 11, loan, whilst buying more young to replace the ones you have loaned, then the cycle continues. From this model, which players have had a loan and come back and started within our 11 consistently? I say zero players have. We have a list of players over 2 years that have not impacted the starting 11.
