Just found out yesterday that as well as the HCAFC flag bearer I know someone else out there who has gone for the entire series!

He’s a Scunny fan so should be used to the disappointing parts of the series

the second test starts in under 10 minutes.

just noticed something that viewers might find interesting.

narayan jagadeesan is wicket keeper and occasional opening bat for tamil nadu in india. the ranji trophy is four matches into its season.

tamil nadu faced railways in the ranji trophy beginning on january 19th.
tamil nadu scored 489 off 144 overs with jagadeesan scoring 245no off 402 deliveries. this was his first first-class double hundred.
railways scored 246 and 114 to lose by an innings and 129 runs.

in their next match, starting on january 26th, tamil nadu played chandigha.
chandigha were all out for 111.
tami nadu scored 610/4 declared off 126.1 overs. jagadeesan scored 321 off 403 deliveries, his first first-class triple hundred. the declaration came when he was out. that's 566 runs for once out in two innings.
chandigha scored 206 and lost by an innings and 293 runs.

in the previous game, he hadn't batted in a rain-truncated match. in the first game of the season, he'd batted down the order and scored 25 and 9 in a defeat.

it'll be interesting to see what happens next.

rewinding a little further, he holds the world record score for a one-day match innings. in november 2022 tamil nadu played arunachai pradesh in a 50 over game in the vijay hazare trophy.

jagadeesan pilfered 277 off 141 deliveries at a rate of 196.45 with 25 fours and 15 sixes. the previous highest was 268 by alistair brown for surrey against glamorgan in 2002.

tamil nadu became the first one-day team to score 500, amassing 506/2 off their 50 overs. their first wicket pair put on 416, also a record. the other opener made 154 off 102.

runachai pradesh were all out for 71 with a top score of 17. extras was joint second with 14. bowler siddharth took 5 for 12 off 7.4 overs.

but that's not all. with his 277, he became the first player to score hundreds in five consecutive one-day innings, the 277 being the fifth. three players had previously managed four.

India on 336/6 after electing to bat, looks like a proper day 1 test match score for once!

Once upon a time 336 would have been seen as a team going for it on the first day. Today India have been variously described as ‘pegged back’ and ‘put under the cosh’.

My working rubric always used to be 90 at lunch, 180 at tea, 270 at the close was a par scoring day.

    Not any more.
