All quiet on the transfer front with the BBC saying spending is much reduced from previous windows. . "The transfer window shuts at 23:00 GMT and January spending levels are significantly down on previous seasons. As of midnight on Wednesday, only 17 players had been signed by Premier League clubs in January, with 10 permanent transfers, seven loan deals and disclosed fees of about £50m. It is a far cry from the past three transfer windows - January 2023 and the summers of 2022 and 2023 - which each set Premier League spending records. At the same point last year, on the eve of deadline day, there had been 38 transfers worth about £550m - 10 times this year's amount. Top-flight clubs went on to spend a record-breaking £843m in last season's January window. That included Chelsea's record £107m deal for Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez from Benfica on deadline day." No figures quoted for championship spending on the Beeb but this the ESPN list which will no doubt be updated as the day unfolds. https://www.espn.com/soccer/transfers/_/league/ENG.2/season/2024/copa-arg
Very unlikely we get one. Either have to spend big and get one who expects/will start over Bednarek, probably pissing off Bednarek and Stephens in the process. Or find someone who wants to come in as fourth choice and barely play
We have KWP, Bree, Manning and Meghoma for FB's and THB, Bednarek, Stephens and Charles for CB. That's ok for me.
A utility player would be smart, Someone like Ben Johnson who can cover multiple positions, But only its finanacially viable. thats just my thoughts tho.
Why would he do that? He is probably on a fat contract at Newcastle and would take a pay cut to join now, or wait til the summer and sign here anyway if he wanted (I guess the club will want to keep him). He’s risking an injury in the second half of the season which maybe stops him moving here, but he’ll find a club anyway who would take him on so taking a pay cut now seems stupid
He's openly said he loves it down here and wants to stay! So i guess is hed probably be persuaded to take a pay cut.
Yeah but why now? He can stay here (where he loves it) til the summer and then sign permanently, on a big wage. Or he can sign permanently now and earn less money doing the same thing, it makes no sense for him to sign now unless he’s worried about getting a long term injury so wants the contract now to insure against that
