Not really looking forward to this tbh But I think we need to play really direct football, make runs in behind their defenders and take shots when we have it near their box Because if we try and play our usual intricate game in and around their box, we are going to get picked off and mullered.
I think we should play Jorginho (if there's no Partey) --White-----Saliba------------Gabriel--------Zinchenko-- ------Odegaard------Jorginho-------Rice------------------- Saka-------------------Jesus-----------------------Martinelli
Meh, we played intricately in the FA Cup and mullered them so I'm not sure that's true. Play our usual game and we should do fine. We don't tend to get mullered or outplayed by any teams nowadays with our slightly more solid and dour approach. We need Martinelli, Saka and Odegaard to have their shooting boots on though.
Yeah really we need more efficiency up top, Hopefully Saka and Jesus are hitting some form now. Had over 20 shots against Liverpool, Villa, West Ham and Fulham the Season.(games we dropped points)
I wouldn't say we 'mullered' them for the whole game. First half, yes, we were clearly the superior side and they struggled to cope with us. Second half, they grew into it because we didn't put them away and ended up having double the shots we had (Liverpool 10 shots second half, whereas we had 5). I do agree though that efficiency in the penalty box will be important because Liverpool are utterly devastating as an attacking force. And we can't be as profligate as we were in the FA Cup fixture. That said, I'm not optimistic of a win. I actually think it'll be a 2-2 draw. Which doesn't help us tbh, as we need a win no matter what.
I still think Liverpool will have another blip. I don't see them staying consistent this Season. (City on the other hand) We are however playing them whilst they are in their best run of form.
Of course he is . Like I said, we should have sold this guy last summer and kept Xhaka. Dodgy personal life aside, the guy is never, ever available and always has injuries. Critical stage of the season when we need him and still has setbacks. Get rid at all costs this Summer.
HT. 1-1. I can't believe, after such a dominant half where we've tested their defence and restricted their attack, we've conceded a goal like THAT seconds before the HT whistle goes. That is absolutely criminal. We've played so well, should be a couple of goals ahead, and Liverpool score from a chaotic situation in our box that neither Raya or Saliba took control of. With seconds to go before the whistle, you simply need to just boot it clear. Utterly naive. That will give Liverpool a new lease of life in the second half. Extremely, extremely annoying. Only Arsenal could let a team score from 0 shots on target.
HUGE Result. Good performance We dominated in midfield. Jorginho is excellent in these games - also playing Rice and another more defensive midfielder allows Odegaard to play in his natural position. Partey, Tomiyasu ands Timber come back into the squad soon as well.
FT. 3-1. Great victory and what a win. Thoroughly deserved. Apart from a 10-15 minute spell at the beginning of the second half where Liverpool had us under the cosh, we've outplayed them and fully warrant the 3 points. Created the best chances and restricted Liverpool's attack throughout the entire match. Jorginho was absolutely outstanding. Dictating the tempo, sprayed the ball well, allowed us to construct attacks by winning 2nd balls and progressing the ball forward. Superb, superb display. His best in an Arsenal shirt. Saka, Martinelli and Havertz were all industrious and pressed well, forcing turnovers and created dangerous situations. Odegaard was orchestrating the press. Back 5 were a bit wobbly on occasion, but overall, we performed so well. I still don't think we'll win the title, but the main thing is we are up there and we've staked a solid claim to being in contention. We're a very good side. Fantastic performance and result
Surprised this is coming from a Spurs fan tbh . But thanks, CK. Like I said, I still think the title is going to City for the 4th time in a row. But, for now, we can have belief that we are capable of taking this race far. For the last couple of weeks, all I've been hearing is how the title is a coin toss between Klopp and Pep. A lot of eulogising and lauding of the former in light of his recent announcement (which I can understand). We were totally discounted from being considered even though we aren't far off both teams. At least we've shown that we're here to stay and can add a spanner to the works.
