Good Morning. It's Thursday 1st February, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

West Ham to test Leeds resolve with late Gnonto bid

Leeds may face a late battle to keep hold of Wilfred Gnonto, as West Ham Utd prepare to test Leeds resolve with a late bid for the 20yo Italian International.

Thus far, Gnonto has had a season to forget. He didn't to get his move to Everton last Summer, falling out with both the Elland Road faithful, and the Leeds hierarchy in the process; whilst on the field, he's failed to live up to expectations.

With 712 minutes of league game time under his belt, the 20yo has contributed very little (1 goal & one assist). Even so, Leeds recognise his potential, and are close to agreeing new terms with him.

His present contract runs for another three and a half years, but Leeds have put a package together that will vastly improve his salary, if he agrees to a further 18 months.

    More spin than a tornado

Speaking at his pre-match presser yesterday, Daniel Farke remained coy regarding transfer activity, to or from Elland Road in the closing stages of the Winter transfer window.

Farke spoke of the difficulties of finding players that were both affordable, and would improve the squad, and would be working tirelessly in the last 24 hours to make it happen.

The only thing wrong with this statement, is that Leeds fans have heard it all before, many times! If truth be known, the club is still recovering from being looted and pillaged last Summer.

Messrs Hammond and Steinsson performed magnificently during the Summer to repair the damage, but the jobs only half done!

They have had MONTHS to prepare for this window, and to say 'we'll use the last 24 hours to work on it' reeks of contempt. It may have been a righteous decision to get rid of Spence, but to do so without a replacement may well cost Leeds dearly.

"We had a period during this window when we had some injury concerns but it has elevated a lot," "We could do with some additions in the defence, but the January transfer window is difficult and it is difficult to improve or squad.

"We don't want to just bring numbers in. If someone comes in we want the full package and someone who improves us that is affordable. It is not easy in January to find this package. If not we keep going with what we have got."

"We felt we could do with one or two additions with the defence. We're playing a fantastic season so far and it's difficult to improve our squad. In January it's not easy to find this package. We'll use the last 24 hours to work on it. If we find it, great. If not we go with what we've got."

Leeds could turn their attention to Holgate

talkSPORT presenter Alex Crook has told viewers that Leeds United making a late move for Everton defender Mason Holgate is 'one to still keep an eye on'.

His season long loan at Southampton has not gone to plan, having slipped down the pecking order at St Mary's. Rumours from the South Coast suggest that after just four league starts this season, they would be happy to see the back of the 27yo.

Holgate, along with fellow Toffee's team mate Ben Godfrey, and Burnley forgotten man Connor Roberts are understood to be the main three names on the table, but with just hours remaining, can Leeds pull it off?

If this is the best Leeds can come up with, should the Elland Road hierarchy have a rethink about their recruitment process?

    Good morning all
Another poor transfer window (you would think we would be used to them by now) still at least were not wasting our money on last minute poor signings, for which we have come to regret in the past.
As for Gnonto he is obviously not giving us his all, and is not happy here, which begs the question why keep him? unless were holding out for best price possible, however if i was in charge i would want him gone for a reasonable sum, as i am sure his attitude would not help in the dressing room, one bad apple and all that.

Morning pal :emoticon-0148-yes: If we got a princely sum for Gnonto I wouldn’t be fussed in the slightest if he left. Obviously I would prefer the money were reinvested in quality but, either way it would help with FFP. However, letting him go for a “reasonable sum” because he is unhappy or a bad apple (same with Cresswell) sends the wrong message imo. It opens the door for everyone to get a cheap move away by having a sulk. Personally, I would rather the club play hardball, “yes, you can go but on our terms”. Sell high, scout well, buy low…. Works very well for Brighton and Brentford :emoticon-0148-yes:

Supposedly this has come from Alex Cook at Talksport. I'll believe it when Fab mentions it

Regarding Gnonto I think the board are holding out for £30 million however the likes of Everton and West Ham are willing to pay £20 million and Lazio want a loan

Supposedly, apparently, according to and “I am hearing” are all phrases used about the other thirty players we haven’t signed since the beginning of summer. Wait and see works for me :emoticon-0148-yes:

This is the fun of deadline day mate.

On another note I don't know why we couldn't get the business done earlier.

I get that you love it mate, given your age, another 20 years of disappointment tempered by hope should grind you down <laugh>

Deals rarely get done early unless you wave the wonga like Chelsea do but we’ve played that before with catastrophic results :emoticon-0120-doh:

My parents decided to to tell me Santa didn't exist by taking me to Toy R Us to pick my Xmas presents and something usually bad happens to me round the Holidays. So you can see why they're similar in my brain

Even worse if Bielsa was still in charge. Any new signing would have to undertake at least 6 weeks of intensive training followed by tests to see how much chin fat they had. All that just to make the bench. You just couldn't make it up could you.

On that note, was kinda hoping Leeds might organise a pre season in Thailand. Don't think the Mrs would be suspicious
