please log in to view this image v v Well still not won in the championship in 2024 a tad concerning i would say-Liam Manning has certainly changed the style of play which is great on the eye. However scoring goals is a big problem. Clearly not creating enough decent chances for our strikers and very weak up front in terms of quality. For me Knight is not a playmaker and needs to be played in his correct position-Sam Bell is not really producing and creating-Amis Mehmeti cannot go past players-Nahki Wells is nowhere near the player of a few years ago looks slow and disinterested. We crave freshness up front and hopefully with Twine and Sykes coming back we can start scoring. As it stands i think we are two players short of becoming a real threat. Goalkeeper-Striker-required. Leeds will come to Ashton Gate with a full away end and a side brimming in confidence. For me another loss on the cards and I am going 2-1 Leeds. I said i would give my verdict on Liam Manning at the end of January -Personally like the style of football we are playing-i think he is being hindered by the lack of signings for today and not for the future- he clearly knows he requires players as we the fans do. Are we any better than when Nige was here no-bearing in mind the Lansdown's wanted improvements -we are still in the same place. For me the owners need to back LM with signings if they want a top six finish. At present we are not good enough to take a spot.
If Manning sees any players that he really wants who are available, and they are within our budget, then money should be made available to him. But given that the January window often sees inflated prices, then maybe he's better waiting until the Summer when contracts are often up and he may get more choice at a lower price ? Given our league position and points total, there are arguably only 2 Play Off spots still up for grabs anyway, as we're 19 points behind Leeds in 4th place and no matter how many signings we make, we won't be able to catch them. But there is a host of teams above us who will also have an eye on those places too. Given the change of Manager this season and players leaving, I think we might be better off just consolidating until May.
I have to agree with this Angelic, our season is effectively already over. This is why I’d look at loans for the back half of the season and revamp in the summer.
Suppose that makes sense if we can find club’s wiling to do it, I’d prefer permanent moves, but appreciate Jan is a difficult window. If we were in with a chance of top 6 I’d be in favour of going for it, as it is unless there is a deal we can’t turn down, I’m now of the opinion it would be better to hold back to allow more funds to be available in the summer.
I agree on the preference for perm moves, but with so little movement by PL clubs this window means the money won't be flowing downwards. It also means PL clubs can't sell assets in this window, so maybe open to putting them in the shop window on loan as a result. Loans with views to a permanent signing are far more prevalent now than ever before. The trick is, as you say, finding the right player. Imagine if we'd had a buy clause in the Tammy loan...
I have absolutely no idea why, but I feel quietly confident tonight, let’s hope the lads justify my belief in them. COYR
