Everyone saying Charly doesn’t suit our system, yet Schad shared a stat where we have not lost a single game he started…
It is probably because he mainly starts at home. Our points per game with him in the starting xi is wayyy higher.
We’ve also never lost a game with you on Matchday Thread duty. So the real question here is, who is more important to the team and just how much would Juventus have to pay to lure you away too?
Mega disappointing. The one player who came out of the 22/23 season with any respect. This is a massive mistake imo, there's no way that Bournemouth bloke is better. Thanks for your efforts Charley. That goal against Plymouth was one of the most beautifully struck I've ever seen. Hope you smash it at Juve
Everyone at the club would like to wish Charly the best of luck for the remainder of the season. Director of Football Jason Wilcox said: “Allowing Charly to leave on loan was a decision that we have been deliberating on for some time, but Russell, Phil and our ownership group are all in agreement that this is the right move for Charly at this time. “Considering the midfield options we have available to us right now, and Charly’s lack of game time, we wanted to allow him this chance to gain some valuable experience in one of the top leagues in Europe. “Juventus are a huge club and we are convinced that this move will allow Charly the opportunity to flourish and then come back and be a success at Southampton.”
Great of us to offer a player to our poor Italian nursery side. its like when Marek Saganowski was playing champions league whilst on loan from us in league one and Jason Puncheon on loan to premier league side whilst we were in the champ.
While true, there's still a massive differential. In games where Charly doesn't start, our points haul (if extrapolated out over every game to date) would see us on 43 points: in the playoffs only on goal differential. In games where Charly does start, our points haul (extrapolated out) would see us on 75 points: 6 clear of Leicester. I'm certainly not saying that he's responsible for that. But he also definitely hasn't been holding us back, either.
In games Ryan Fraser has started, we've won 3 drawn 1 and lost 3. Mid-table form. And yet he is having a much bigger impact than Charly. Sulemana has won 7 drawn 2 lost 0. And yet we've improved since he got injured.
This probably isn’t the best time to say the Leicester board are offering me big money to do their threads…
I did wander about that with the omission of a buy clause in the news. Let's hope both things happen, we go up he returns to light up the PL. I wish him well but will be sad not to see him for the remainder of this season. I quite like his overall attitude.
The other possibility is that there's value in players that unsettle defenses which doesn't always translate directly to end product, but does contribute to results. Both Charly and Sulemana have a lot of gravity: they suck defenders toward them and draw a lot of eyeballs because of their skill on the ball, and that can open up chances elsewhere on the pitch.
I'm sad to see him go mainly because when he's in the mood I absolutely love watching him play. More so than any of our other players easily. Those sorts of players are an absolute joy to watch when things are coming off for them. Has to be said too that if our squad is good enough that a player of his quality is going on our loan due to lack of game time then anything less than promotion has to be seen as a failure. He'd walk into at least 20 clubs first teams in this league imo.
I'm a big fan of Charly. A little more on the fence with Sulemana tbh. But yeah they are clearly both quality, no doubt. It's just our form this season is such that, anyone who didn't feature in those 4 losses, will have an impeccable W-D-L record, so it isn't the most reliable. Truth is, Stuie, Smallbone, and Aribo have all been performing better than Charly this season.
Disagree on Aribo personally. I'd place them about similarly - a handful of good games albeit with Aribo playing far less. Very different sorts of players mind so hard to do a direct comparison
