This week saw the arrival of striker, Michael Frey, who has joined from Antwerp. He's 29, so not too old by our recent standards, and has scored 31 times in 53 games for Antwerp since joining them in 2021. He also had a loan spell at Schalke 04, where he played 15 without scoring. The cynic in me can't help but wonder if he scored more than one in every two games for Antwerp, why have they let him go? Still...maybe he is going to get 20 + goals and be our saviour! Our opposition are sitting in 18th, with 10 wins, 3 wins and 15 losses. Their main threat is pretty obvious, as front man Sammie Szmodics has 16 league goals this season, 21 in all competitions. They beat Wrexham in the FA Cup fourth round last time out, but haven't won in the league since beating Bristol City on December 12th, so five losses and two draws in their last seven. I wondered if their fans are pleased, or a bit disappointed with their performance this season, so I popped onto the Blackburn board...kiwi seems to be the most active member on there, so wasn't very helpful. Their manager is ex-Newcastle, Feynoord and Ac Milan striker Jon Dahl Tomasson, who joined them after managing Swedish side Malmö. Team news and manager comments to go up when/if they go on the official, enjoy if you are making the trip, and as always...COME ON YOU SUPER HOOPSA!!!
Nice one, Dave, but we are only three from safety. Three points on Saturday and a Wednesday win, please!
Another ****ing woeful historical record. TerryB once of this parish was assuring me on Sunday that we always used to beat Blackburn in the olden days. I can only ever remember losing. Last one I remember was a couple of seasons ago losing 1-0 away at this time of year, the start of the tragically dire run which eventually saw the back of Warburton. I remember it, with some gaps, because I watched it in a pub in Copenhagen with the most excellent @DanishQPR. Cheers Dave
Really depends on who is the least confident and out of salts. After their win in the cup..I suspect it will be us
Possibly good news ... Palace have signed Adam Wharton from Rovers, he is possibly their best player. From Loft For Words Interview with a B Rovers fan ... Stand out players in the team? The bright, young thing is Adam Wharton. He is a terrific prospect, although by the time I hit send on this piece, he may well be a Crystal Palace/Chelsea/Newcastle Utd player - delete as applicable. Many Rovers fans are tipping him to play for England one day. I once said the same of David Dunn, who in fairness made that prediction come true…once. But Adam has vision and passing range beyond his tender years. If he stays injury-free, one imagines that he will eclipse at least David Dunn’s England career.
