No, as it was talks re the clubs. So wasn't just a Amad thing. But as I said, no deal yet. Probably runs to the final minutes if the window. If it happens it's a bonus.
Just my opinion, but I've never understood the insistence by some that teams need 'experienced' players. I have always taken the view that if you're good enough, you're old enough. To me, it's much more important that a player has ability, endurance, footballing intelligence and is of good character. Every league in the country is full of 'experienced' players. We have found to our cost time and time again that a large proportion are journeymen who are at best, bang average and only looking for a final payday. So as you can probably guess, I am a big fan of 'the model'

I think it's more about leadership. Experience tends to foster it if you're the right kind of character to begin with. The young lads need someone to look at when they're under pressure and get support from. I remember seeing Don Hutchison spend an entire 90 minutes screaming at George McCartney in a friendly game, but in an encouraging way.
You won't be fussed but I'm putting you on ignore mate. No reason to think your words aren't sincere and in good faith but I'm really struggling with the negativity as I see it and I didn't read or think that reading Speakmans words in ay way. Your opinion is yours, I like good arguments and testing theories, but perhaps occasionally try and think about is there another possibility? You may be happier and correct more often with hindsight, who knows? All the best, as I say sure you're not fussed what I think and you may be proven right I guess
Exactly this mate. How many clubs win major titles with a squad as young as ours? I’d be surprised if there’s been any in the last few decades. But people see that as a dig at the players we have and it’s not at all you just need that guidance. There’s a reason the best teams have experience in certain positions. Keano hit the nail on the head when he talks about going to United and having a dressing room full of leaders. Sometimes it’s not all about the technical ability of the players when you need to dig in and grind out games. Look at Hendo too he was limited as a footballer but probably the best captain thats played in the premier league since someone like John Terry. Like having another manager on the pitch.
I am. I think quality and ability is king. The main benefit of experience is you’re proven and every side needs leadership but you don’t need a high number of older players to have leadership and you can have younger players with proven experience.
I try to consider all possibilities and weigh them by how likely they are. Don't be conned by other posters who desperately want you to agree with them that it's negative for their own strange ego boost. Weird how many people can't take anything that's not blind rabid positivity these days. Maybe it's why we're regressing as a species.
So why are captains not always the best youngster in the team and generally players who’ve been in the game longer? We just need more of a balance imo we don’t need to be at either end of the scale and we’re currently as far to one side as we can be. People love quoting Brentford’s model and how we’re trying to be similar well go and look at who they signed in their last championship season then made him captain straight away and got promoted at the first time of asking.
Weird formatting buggered this comment. The forum is absolutely ****ed on my phone browser when replying to posts. So I just deleted it and started again. To suggest that humanity regressing is somehow related to people refusing to blindly criticise Sunderland without the pertinent information is just laughable.
I’ll refer to my previous answer .. ‘every side needs leadership but you don’t need a high number of older players to have leadership’
If that's how you're reading it then you're demonstrating my thinking perfectly. 100% one side or the other and nothing in-between allowed.
Not sure where you get that from. A balanced view is good. It's perfect. A mesh of balanced views from both sides. Also good. A needless witch-hunt based on absolutely nothing is poor. If you want to talk about regression. You're sending us back to salem. There is ergot on your rye, my friend.
That was a great pass and the kind of confidence and risk taking we need imo. What we don't need is boos if he doesn't quite get it right. This is how goals are scored, teams are well set up with good footballers in the chamionship, they don't generally just get beaten if that makes sense
Who’s our leader? There’s a difference between a “high number” and zero mate. O’nien is the closest we have and that’s a worry within itself. Just think personally that a better CB there and to make it easy I’ll use players who’ve moved this window - a DM such as Lewis Travis and if we got for arguments sake Moore up top that would give us a solid foundation for the young lads around them. Travis has 200 games at this level basically all of his career, was blackburns captain and plays where we’re crying out for someone. There’s 2 players we know were both available this window who would’ve improved us and brought tonnes of experience at this level in the middle of the park.
