2 or 3 times a year I meet up with some old uni mates for a whole day session, usually in the Midlands somewhere, Brum, Leamington, W'hampton, etc. These posts have got me thinking about a crawl around stations which have pubs. Logistics might be a bit challenging and it'll probably involve an overnighter but so far I've plotted Leeds, Harrogate, Knaresborough, York, Doncaster and Sheffield. We're meeting up next week in Warwick so I'll be floating the idea then!
Yes seen it now, had to scroll down a long way before I found it, you would think it would have made headlines though
from a transport point of view it sounds like something that could be done nicely on one of the northern/hdm's twice-a-year offers. in case you haven't seen them, you collect a couple of hdm vouchers and then you can get up to four tickets for the day. you can go anywhere on northern for a day for a tenner, getting on and off wherever you like, or £17.50 for a weekend (or £10 for the saturday or £7.50 for the sunday). with a weekend one you could stay away overnight. just make sure not to miss any last trains. i've used these offers to visit nottingham, manchester, bradford, castleford, leeds, wakefield so far.
Indeed, I myself can't wait. Drive by the chippy, park up at Fimber, get on the train, alight at Wetwang, and work up an appetite climbing the hill to buy fish and chips. Fair play to those involved, but I can't help but think this is what happens when your loft becomes too small for your train set. Yes, yes, I know, "model railway".
Thought we were talking about the city of Hull tbf. Maybe we need to see a map to show what area is included in HCC?
This thread started on a very specific item and, like many good threads on here, broadened as it evolved into much wider themes. The city of Hull and the authority of The East Riding of Yorkshire are inextricably linked and, in my opinion, are both valid topics for this thread. I like this thread. As someone (and there are a few of us on here), who no longer lives local to H&ER it is a great way to keep up with developments in the city and area we still call home. As is often the case, discussions can drift off topic - which happens - in my opinion the system works well where one of the mods comes and tidies things up if they overstep the rules of the board.
Aye, much like many other cities have, Hull's last expansion was in the 1960's. Even the likes of Stephen Brady and Colin Inglis favour boundary expansion. The present boundary is a farce.
Live in Sheffield now. The actual boundaries for Sheffield,Rotherham and Barnsley start miles outside the centres in the countryside.
