"Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson cuts short a news conference after appearing to take offence when a journalist puts it to him that the top two Premier League teams have "struggled in Europe" this season. United's 2-2 draw with Benfica at Old Trafford means they need to avoid defeat in their final Group C game away in Basle to progress to the last 16." (Source: the BBC Football website) If you go onto the website, you can view the clip where SAF walks out. What is it with these arrogant people, that they cannot stand to hear the simple truth? I'm absolutely loving watching the old-guard slowly fall apart
What a prat. People like him are so surrounded by obsequious yes-men that they've forgotten how to act like reasonable human beings. I mean - some member of United's staff actually held the door open for him by the looks of things! When really he should have stood there reminding Ferguson that he's only a member of staff and that doing a press conference is part of his job. Sorry - but celebrities having doors held open for them after they've had a totally unjustified paddy at someone trying to do their job really is the sort of thing that makes me angry. (Let's see how long it takes for someone to mention the Harry "wheeler-dealer" clip and call me a hypocrite...)
What a tart. How can he look at the group they are in and think anything else? utd, the highest/second highest (depending on who you ask) grossing team in the world, not in first place. Same for city?!
I really do wish I was a footy journalist. Oh, Jesus! I would have me some fun! I'd be the Paxman of the paparazzi. Sure, I'd be banned from grounds like Anfield, The New Library and Old Trafford, but the bastards couldn't stop me attending public functions. That's when I'd get my best questions in. I'd make the arrogant idiots squirm.
The reporter wasn't even saying ManU he was saying both the Manc clubs as Mancini has already said they have only a 30% chance of qualifying i think it was a legitimate question.ManU have after all only beaten the bottom team in their group,so i would constitute this as struggling,in fact more like woeful.Has Sir Alex lost it ? With some of his team selections this year i think he might have.
'Arry has to be carried out of press conferences. Anymore questions? No? I might be lining up a move for Beckham.... Well, are you Harry? Nah, sorry.
Don't forget that Harry has done similar things in the past, the "wheeler-dealer" comment, for example. It's funny to us as we're fans of Tottenham and him, but other fans are likely to perceive it as arrogance.
I think that Redknapp's reaction was a little more understandable, WY. He's essentially being compared to Del Boy, whereas this bloke's saying that Man Utd and Man City haven't done very well and they really haven't. I don't even get why Ferguson's annoyed, to be honest.
Nowhere near as pathetic as being overheard saying he was going to "get" a journalist who asked a question about Ryan Giggs that didn't have anything to do with former Big Brother contestants.
Aaaand there it is. Personally I thought Harry was also acting like a bit of a tit in the "wheeler-dealer" situation. I can only presume that he was pretty angry about something else at the time. Fergie, with his grin, just enjoyed being able to flounce about and waste people's time, however.
How dare someone do their job?
Presumably it's the suggestion that he's a bit dodgy, with the court case and investigation that's been going on for seemingly forever.
Harry's was completely different imo. He was personally insulted by the comment, it was aimed at HIM personally.
Very true - and a fair distinction. Still think he was being too over-sensitive but what you say is right. (Part of me is also still a bit sorry for/repulsed by the journalist's piteous "Oh Harry - I didn't mean it like that..." as if he was personally hurt by nice old 'arry being all mean to him).
