Right result. We were very poor, but once again, City get a free pass to foul without sanction for the first 45.

Oh well. Will be good to see Maddison return in the next game - as he didn't seem to appear in this one!!<laugh>

100% it was not a foul. It’s normal that you put a player on the keeper to put pressure on. vicario has been incredible and hopefully he will be stronger next time

Son missing really shows against the top sides. They can bring KDB and doku off the bench and we have a barely fit Maddison and that’s about it.

Wasn’t a poor performance, just didn’t quite have quite enough quality at the top end.

Season over and it’s not even January.

The manager has to be more versatile. Seems he only has one way to play.

So of course, the club's Twitter feed is now being inundated with members of The Small Penis Club

Nice to know when that boiled piss is starting to scald...

City did a City job on us again, cynical fouls in midfield to break up play, the pushing on Vicario was constant but he should have climbed all over Dias to punch that away, rare mistake from Vicario

He’s not just blocking him though, he’s put his arm up to completely knock him.

This blocking thing needs to be clamped down on anyway. Surely it’s blatant obstruction? If the keeper goes through him then it’s a penalty.

I get your point and I feel the pain. But city are a class side, probably the best team in world football and we didn’t crumble. It’s disappointing we didn’t create much but without Son we don’t have that world class player to make a difference. The goal they scored was from a mistake as well so it wasn’t like the tactics were wrong necessarily. The lack of cutting edge up front was what lost us the game tonight

Lost to the better team. We had a spell but never quite looked knitted together especially in the first half and we ran out of steam after flickering into life at the start of the second.

I don’t think that’s a foul though you’ve seen them given. If you reversed it, I’d be howling if it was given a foul.

That’s silverware out of the window this season which of course is a bit numbing. But with Maddison and the others coming back at least we have the opportunity to put a good run together in the league. IIRC we have a horrible run in so need to be well positioned ahead of that.

We will have to agree to disagree. I just saw it as usual tactics to pressure the keeper and he wasn’t strong enough. If we had scored that and it been disallowed I would have been fuming.

I think Son obviously a big miss. But we also looked timid and uncertain in the first half and really had to play our way into the game. We looked out of sorts.

No shame in losing to City and while stats wise it’s probably a bit of a battering, the scoreline and the manner in which they won the game hardly speak to getting outplayed.

Just have to look forward to the rest of the season now. Gutted to be out of the cup though.

Front three are Everton calibre. If Johnson hasn’t upped it by the end of the season we need to flip him at a quick loss or risk having another Ndombele/ Lo Celso/ Sessegnon. Expected so much more, he’s timid, doesn’t utilise his pace and often seems out of sync with other players.

Werner’s shown why he’d only played about 75 mins of football before joining. Waste of a signing, he’s the German Traore without the massive muscles. Can we send him back now and just ease our pain?

And if Richarlison hasn’t got a tap-in to score he offers very little throughout a game. The gap between him and Kane is just too big, CF/ ST needs to be our marquee signing in the summer.

Midfield also didn’t do enough either but then I suppose up against Silva, Rodri and then KdB coming on they were up against it, especially without two of our regular starters.

**** feeling being out of both cups so early despite having no European football this season.

Kulu is a massive outlet when he’s playing up front as he has the strength and guile to do something with the ball. We rarely got in behind and when we did the final ball was so poor. Of course they are a quality side but it was a really timid display and I have no complaints that we lost that game.
