I've spent nearly 30 years learning my trade and now have the respect of my peers in my industry. I didn't demand it, it has been earned. When I went into new jobs I have to earn the respect of my new colleagues I don't demand it just because of past achievements.

Or is normal life different to a football manager?

And before anyone starts, it's just my opinion on respect and how I was brought up. I'm not slagging him off, I'm not screaming for him to go. It's an opinion

He is saying his CV as a coach deserves respect. It does. The loudest fans whinging about him were those who did so before he even got on the pitch. The lad hasnt been given any chance to earn any respect here at all by a daft minority. Likely never will either.

Klopp resigns today, because he is knackered. I am not too sure how many on here have walked in the shoes of a main coach. I havent, at elite level, but even at academy level it is exhausting. Sometimes you can earn respect because of your 20 years of prior work, but if we say it has to be earned at the start of every new job, it is the thin end of the wedge. I daresay Will Still wouldnt be treated so unfairly before day one.

As I have said numerous times MB can and should only be judged on performances and results on the pitch.

The minority that kicked off before he even had a personalised Jacket need to look at themselves.

I don't however agree that he can just demand respect, but that's not affecting my judgement on his ability, results and performances will dictate that

FFS, why does everything, on here, have to be so black and white.

Is this bloke demanding total unswerving respect in all matters ...

... or just asking for the basic common courtesy anyone should expect?

Of course he has to earn the respect someone like Stokoe enjoyed but doesn't deserve the lack of it that proven cheats like Donald earned.

This place is like a PMT awareness class at the moment <doh>

Let's also remember this a coach. Hardly a head coach. He has significantly less experience than most in the game as the number 1 man on the sidelines.

Subtle disagreement I suspect mate. I doubt he is demanding to be treated like Klopp or Pep. Maybe he is just asking for a basic level of respect any club employee should get. I dont employ folk and have no respect for them, I respect their CV or I wouldnt appoint them. But they still have to prove to me they are what they claimed and I saw. I doubt Beale is asking for much more.

Anyway, off for the malt. If my posts become more idiotic or argumentative, sorry <laugh><cheers>

My football knowledge is very limited, I knew him as the brains behind Gerrards success, qpr and getting sacked at rangers.

I had to Google his coaching history as I don't follow much outside of safc

It's about time someone said it mate ...

... the people of Sunderland have always been renowned for being welcoming to strangers.

What's happened, over the last month, has shamed us imo.

If one of our own went to manage in London, and was subjected to this degree of hostility, we'd rightly be furious.

Sorry, should have made that explicit.

Respect takes different forms though doesn't it? You can respect some as a person. You can respect someone's knowledge and experience. The two don't necessarily go hand in hand.
I've recently been seconded to a big project. My new colleagues can see my publication history online, so they know that I can hold my own in terms of knowledge and experience. They can respect my ability to do my job. I have to earn their respect as a colleague.
Same applies to Beale. We can respect his knowledge and experience and that should be the starting point. But it hasn't been.

Did any of our fans instantly dislike Kevin Phillips, Kevin Ball or Luke O'Nien because of their Cockney/Southern accents?<confused>

A fair point, however this is now getting blown out of all proportion by both sides. The fans are up in arms, MB is reacting and all round its not a great look

For what it’s worth, probably nowt. I’ve always been the way that I’ll respect someone from the start unless something is done to me to stop that. That’s just my way on it and how I’ve been. I was once discussing this with ex work colleagues and one lad said said you need to earn my respect, my reply was who the **** are you to expect me to earn anything off you, ha. Needless to say we didn’t get along.
