totally agree dave. it does make me wonder how i would have viewed the incident had it been final game of the season, a penalty been awarded, we scored and we stayed up because of that point earned! i'd have to say i'd probably have turned a blind eye to it.
I don't want him to become the cheating feck in a moustache who destroyed Ipswich. The article by Kent is ludicrous and bizarre as it may sound if he had got the penalty I wouldn't have been happy. If the ref awards a mistaken penalty when a player wasn't trying to cheat, i.e. the ref stuffs up, then fair enough as human error is part of the game. If as a God, he's omnipotent then he can do what he wants, but he wanted a penalty and didn't get it, therefore not a god. Simple logic.
Oh good point superman, it that case I would have said it was a stonewall penalty or who cares, we avoided relegation. The only problem is that he has developed a reputation for going to ground easily, made worse by the dive on Saturday, therefore will he be less likely to be awarded 'proper' penalities.
well there were maybe four or five 'stonewall' penalty decisions which went against him last season because of this reputation. plenty will point out all the decisions which went his way (of which all of them were correct by the way, no matter what anyone says) but they won't mention the ones he missed out on cos of his reputation. in that respect you could argue he is actually due a couple of dodgy ones but it wouldn't make it right to dive to win them
Sorry SuperNorwich, the nurse is now bringing me my medication. Of course, John Ruddy is an excellent penalty saver so we could get a Champions League spot based on my idea. Then we would make twenty trillion a year which is the most important thing in football of course. Then of course we could go out and spend 5 trillion on a Tevez clone and pay him 2 trillion a week. But of course he wouldn't want to play too much would he? And we moan about Chelski! I always thought as a City supporter the most important thing was to follow your club, through thick and thin, no matter how bad they played or what division or competition they were in. Moan if you like but you come back for more. No prawn sandwiches at Carrow Road despite having one of the worlds leading celebrity chefs on board. Now we are talking about diving about to stay in the Prem. The end justifies the means The world's gone totally mad!
Glad you've migrated on to here rather than keeping your views exclusive to the Snakepit, Redruth. Your forthright comments always make me either smile, or sit up and take notice
Graham Poll, always one for the headlines! http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/football/16051-worst-referee-ever
A year later and I'm still trying to work out why the ref sent Delaney off for denying Holt a clear goal scoring opportunity from the bloody half way line!
that wasn't holt's decision though warky! thats down to the referee. delaney fouled holt - absolutely no question at all. your complaint should be with the referee and delaney
Supers I wasn't blaming Holt for that! We all know deep down that the referee was a blatant Homer that day Holt shouldn't have been on the pitch after that knee high tackle on Colback in the first couple of minutes. Anyhoo all water under the bridge but Holt has definately got a reputation for being a diver.
bitter, much? great to see that time is such a wonderful healer. i won't bother to bring up you all salivating over danny haynes handball then... oops, i just did!
As i said earlier, good a player as he is, his antics could well backfire on him and the rest of his team mates (who probably took the piss out of him back in the dressing room), the next time he goes down like a sack of **** could well be genuine, but his reputation for diving to con the officials would go against him. Having said that, any chance we could have him on loan????.
'moan'arch! welcome back... he has had this reputation for years - i mentioned earlier that there were numerous incidents in the past two years where he SHOULD have had a penalty or free kick but it wasn't given because refs probably think 'its holt, he dives'. it works both ways but his reputation isn't something that he has gained at us, ask shrewsbury and forest fans. personally i think its nearly always blown completely out of all proportion and people accuse him of diving when he doesn't, but on saturday there isn't a soul who could say he didn't dive oh, and no - you'll have to put up with ian henderson a bit longer
Does getting a reputation as a diver (e.g. Suarez) mean that you actually get less penalties than someone who doesn't go down so easily?
Penalties, where do you begin? I suppose 10% are absolute stonewallers.A handball on the line to prevent a goal,a full blooded tackle from behind in the box,a direct body check. But the rest are spread out and handball awards in particular are at least 60% dubious. In the majority of cases they are ball to hand and some are just blasted at the offending player from point blank range. But if you watch a dive from someone like Suarez you need slo-mo to even stand a chance. My guess is that about 30% of penalties are genuine.Look at it from the POV of the offender. You just wouldn't do it when most penalties are converted, the game's not worth the candle.
yeah, i have to admit it did look accidental when he stretched his arm out to fist it in the net cos he couldn't reach it legitimately!
its funny, i don't recall quite the same vitriol from us city fans about that incident as you lot did towards holt last season. maybe i've forgotten to a degree but thats how it seems, despite that being down right cheating which nobody can dispute. its all part of derby day history now... maybe, if there ever is another derby holt will truly do something controversial like punch the ball in the net
