I don't remember many Liverpool fans making (or accepting) the same argument in 09/10. And as your lot showed then, a British CL club is in no way a cert to storm the Europa League. Besides which, we didn't look like challenging for the CL on early season form last year when we were in 3rd place with only one away win and 25 points after 13 games, as opposed to 29 points from 12 games now. We still got to the final, which is an infinitely better result than winning the Europa League.

As for the European experience argument, as your lot again showed in 09/10, the experience may be good but the draining away trips to places like Romania and Portugal are bad for your league form. I'd rather go out of the CL in the second round and be free to concentrate on the league than piss around for a tin pot trophy that is honestly about as prestigious as the Carling Cup.

defence is a bit suspect, ut if they could keep it close then shaqiri and the freis who are in very good form are quite efficient at making stuff out of nothing

that mustve been it. Maybe you should go get some of the Phycisists there to investigate how it affects football results, or to help Basel beat utd, it is (partially) in switzerland after all.

You obviously don't know about my theory (hence my ID). A functional LHC works massively in Liverpool's favour and against the mancs <ok>

Yeah, but you'll need the LHC to actually break the speed of light if you want Liverpool to win the league again ;)

    I knew you wouldn't agree <laugh>

Fair enough to point out the 09/10 run but I'd imagine draining away trips to Romania when you can rest your better players are no less damaging than draining away trips when the first team all travels. Not sure with a big squad that this would affect league form anymore than being in the champs league tbh. Our problem was that our squad was blatantly too one dimensional and threadbare to cope with extra games.

I know being so used to Champs league footy it would be tough to accept but maybe just maybe the occasional reminder of how important the top competitions are can be good for a team in the long run. We had a decent run at Champs League footy and being in the UEFA/Europa pretty much sucked but I do think it'll make us appreciate it all the more next time we get Champs League footy again <ok> I thought United looked pretty casual at times last night almost as if they expected to win and while confidence is never a bad thing over confidence can often be a teams worst enemy.

By the way the 'veiled' meaning of your comment wasn't lost on me. It just wasn't worthy of comment.

True, but I'd be willing to put up with the draining away trips for the CL cos we'd be playing in the top competition. Doing it in the EL would be pointless imo - I'd rather we just focused on the league.

True, but that's like saying having a heart attack makes you really appreciate life. Still doesn't mean you're happy about having one!

What veiled meaning? I simply meant that the laws of physics will need to fundamentally change in order for Liverpool to be any good again. I didn't think I'd particularly veiled it!
