This is a weird transfer, if true. Doyle has been injured a lot this season. He must be an expensive signing. Why would he move now? Why would we even consider selling him?
Probably a number of reasons. Brighton probably offered a lot of money, Doyle wanted the move etc. Personally, although disappointed, as long as we can keep Dibling, SAA and Rodriguez, I'm OK with this. Doyle is more of an AMC I believe so isn't a great fit with Martin's formation. Good luck to him and at least he's moving to Brighton rather than a Chelsea or a Man United. Should be a good career move.
Well he will be for an 18 year old who hasn't played much professional football. He signed a pro contact so he won't come cheap. Several million at least I would think.
He is under a full contract, right? Crown jewels youth player. I would want a statement sum to protect the club’s assets. And Brighton are loaded.
Been with the club since he was 9 and now leaves probably for peanuts. Can't complain as we do it to other clubs but just frustrating to see. I imagine a fair few of our promising academy players will follow Doyle and Jimmy Jay Morgan to leave to prem clubs too, its not as if they get much game time here.
This is how academies work. We can't include everyone in the senior squad even if they're ready. The academy is not all about getting players into our first team, it's also about money as well. Getting good fees for the likes of Doyle and Morgan will help us keep the academy at the highest level.
Oh come on, it won't be as simple as that. I'm sure part of the reason will be he can't see where he'd fit into Martin's system. He probably looks at Charly and thinks if he struggles for game time then I have no chance.
We won't have got good fees for either JJM or Doyle. Only chance of making decent money is if the sell on clause is good. I completely agree that academies are about both developing players for the first team and generating revenue. But if you sell youth players before they break into mens football and grow their value, whether at Saints or on loan, you just wont get the fees required to make it profitable.
Is he really going to get more game time at a PL club? Sometimes think these kids need to show a little more patience, but I'm sure the moneys better so fair enough.
Yes I saw that but like I said, if I were Doyle or his agent and I'd struggle to see how he'd fit into a Russell Martin team.
I disagree, Would have been excellent in the 8. How a player can complain of lack of game time whilst injured is laughable. He isn't waltzing into Brightons first team, and they can offer him alot more than we can financially too. My guess is its closer to that, its always that.
Of course he’s not but he may aswell not be playing at a PL club, probably earning more, than not playing here
Oh money will be a big part - like you say it always is. However, Brighton also give opportunities to young players so he may well get his chance sooner rather than later.
Doyle is 18, by the time he is 21 it is unlikely Martin will be here as it is rare managers last 3 years in jobs. I really doubt this factored into his thinking. More likely we told him he was going to get more playing time when he signed his pro deal and he isn’t so he is pissed off. And there is PL interest so that would turn most players heads anyway
