Surprisingly despite the many ins and outs, we’re actually more than fine. U21s don’t count towards any quota anyway and the quotas are (currently) only for international loans. There’s no limit on domestic ones (to lower divisions, there are for Prem to Prem) - unless I’ve severely missed a new bit of info over the last 6-12 months. So as of right now, only Dier, Perisic, Spence and Ndombele take up four of our seven out quota as Parrott thankfully fell under U21 this season, Werner takes up our only incoming one.
All for it if it is. All I’ve really wanted is just for the club to have a proper strategy in place and signing players that fit said strategy. No idea how we managed to balls it up so badly over about a 6 or so year spell but whatever Paratici began and Lange is now continuing is completely fine by me.
In a nutshell: Poch hangover While he deserves all the credit in the world for what he did with the first team (until he had full reign over transfers...) we absolutely needed a DoF in place to get members of the U23s/U21s loans sorted out to cover all the likely scenarios (first team mainstay, squad mainstay, tidy profit selling them to midtable PL clubs/upper table Championship clubs) which also meant we lacked a generation of stopgap players when we could have had Edwards, Walker Peters, Omomah etc doing a job in the squad that we had to sign players to fill in
I'm no fan of Conte but I'm not at all sure how he could have used Perisic in a more effective way without dropping Son. He was wholly unsuited to the LWB role and if anything, Conte shouldn't have played him anywhere as he often cost us dearly in that role. His performance in our 4-2 defeat to City was horrific, and I don't blame him for it as he was being asked to do something he didn't have the legs to do.
After watching the Brentford game tonight I would love us to sign Toney. I know its a difficult transfer to pull off. I remember him saying he wants to play for Liverpool or Arsenal and I'm sure plenty of clubs would be in for him. I think he scores and assists a lot in our team. The ball he played for Maupay reminded me of Kane playing in Son.
Good player but I don’t think Ange would touch him. It’s been said that Ange and Lange (and Paratici?) want players who solely want to play for Spurs and not just want out of their club. Hence why we snubbed Raya for Vicario, as the former simply wanted out of Brentford and joined that lot up the road about 72 hours after we went elsewhere and the latter said he’d have signed in blood if there was no ink (I can believe that too!), also why we pushed for Dragusin who rejected a bigger club and better offer from Bayern. I do think CF is final the piece of Ange’s jigsaw though. Who that can be is something we may find out in the summer if Lange and co identify a target.
Yeah I 100% get it, just really like how he plays and think he would add a lot for us going forward. If he does well till the end of the season I think his price will sky rocket.
I'm pretty sure he'll be off to Arsenal in the summer. They need a reliable goalscorer and he's a massive Gooner so the move makes sense for both parties. Hopefully they spend £70m on him and a week later he gets banned for life for more gambling charges.
Nusa Watch AM Watch Those always-reliable Turkish sources are linking us with Fenerbahce's Sebastien Szymanski Of course the source makes it suspect right off the bat, but the thought of having a nuclear-powered Dele tearing around the pitch with the ball one minute and tearing around the pitch to win it back the next is certainly mouthwatering
We need to know what that offer was and what the potential second offer will be. Europe’s skint at the moment and the Saudi’s are likely the best options for us to recoup or even make some profits on with some of our players.
If it was anywhere near what they paid for him then I’d take it as in the summer they might not be interested or the fee will be a lot lower. Spurs likely only have 18 games left this season so hopefully won’t need Emerson too much anyway.
I’m well aware injuries or suspensions can happen and the club might need him. But ultimately he’s expendable and getting a good fee now means the club can immediately get another RB in or even take the risk and wait until the summer.
Pretty much my thoughts. No way we’d get close to £25m from a European club. Saw something saying first offer was around £20m, so maybe second could be around what we paid(?), take it and run if so. Should be able to easily replace him with a more Ange-ball type of player.
I'm not sure if it's just me and @PowerSpurs banging this drum but I think Emerson is an extremely useful squad player who in today's market is worth every penny of the £21m we spent on him. Unless we're desperate for cash (which I don't think we are), there is very little reason to sell him. Upgrading him in January will set us back at least £35m and other areas of the team are in far more urgent need of attention.
Like a few others, he can do a job but ultimately he’s not a great fit for the way Spurs want to play under Ange. Would be a risk selling him and not replacing him but will the offer be there in the summer?
Add to that there's several players in the squad who are more expendable, notably Gil and Hojbjerg, plus of the loanees Reguilon and Rodon - and TBH I'm starting to wonder if Bissouma might be next on the list
