WhoScored's Ratings. Rowe just ahead of Gibson.

Rowe had a quiet opening passage, but really worked his way into the game and yes got a goal, but his defensive shift tracking back tackling or bringing the ball forward from deep was impressive

From Paddy Davitt's view: 'Statement win'

"Norwich City eased to a first victory over a team in this season’s Championship top five with a performance of control and clinical intent... Norwich enticed the Baggies onto them once in each half, and cut through with a precision that underlined they have the personnel to mix it with those who harbour the same promotion aims...delivering with such a degree of confidence and swagger; this was a throwback to that bright August spell."

    and on Sargent:

"His finishing at this level is not in doubt, nor his ability to unnerve Championship defenders with his athleticism, his drive and energy. How different would things look and feel around both Wagner and his football club had Sargent stayed fit? He now has five goals from eight league appearances this season."

It makes Sainz's sending off in the reverse fixture all the more frustrating as we were beginning to get on the front foot there after WBA were on top at the beginning

Our defence played positively for the most part, the period from about 40 th minute until about 60 th minute the exception. Ǹo passing around at the back, positive forward passes pushed WBA back and negated any quick attacks. I just cannot see why so many people have a downer on Kenny, he is so solid all the time.

Well, that's about right. I have a hospital appointment on a Saturday afternoon that kills my time between 2:30 - 5:00 pm and City goes and turns on the best performance of the season <wah>

Just an ultrasound scan of the liver. Something not 100% right there but its nothing serious (so the doctor has said). Once the results are back he can administer the correct medication to stabilise whatever is failing :emoticon-0148-yes:

I am heading back out that way in about 7 weeks - I guess I could have delayed the scan if I'd thought about it :emoticon-0102-bigsm

It’s a tricky one because he’s so central to things, which means you can usually blame him for the bad stuff because he will have been in the mix somewhere (and in doing so overlook the good stuff).

And I find myself doing it too - in the first 15 minutes yesterday, McLean tried two through balls along the ground. The first was terribly executed (though the idea was good) and played West Brom into a dangerous counterattack. The second was a decent opportunity, but again was intercepted by a bit of anticipation from a West Brom player.

Even though the second one was nowhere near as dangerous, my heart sank and I immediately thought “oh here we go, McLean’s having a nightmare with a second under hit pass, it’s going to be a long game…”

Then he tried it a third time - eye of a needle, as even on the screen you could see there were two West Brom players who were either side of the threaded ball. I watched him play it and immediately thought “oh for ****’s sake, not again”. It felt like I saw it in slow motion and I assumed it had been intercepted. In my brain I thought one or other West Brom player had nabbed it and gone for a counterattack. I must have looked away from the screen as I rolled my eyes or something, because I was genuinely surprised when I realised Sargent was clean through on goal and then the ball was in the net (though I actually thought the keeper had saved it).

Believe it or not, my immediate thought was not to celebrate the goal, but to think “Sarge was definitely off-side, McLean must have released the ball too late”. It took a while to process that the players were celebrating and no offside flag had gone up.

Now I appreciate you might read that and think bullshit, there was no way you could have had that many thoughts as it was a matter of seconds, but I swear that was my exact thought process. And not with the benefit of hindsight - most of the thoughts were already there with those two ‘crap’ (in my head) original passes from McLean.

The point of all that ridiculously long-winded waffle is that I was in a bad mood before the match, had a **** week at work and my mentality was negative. I think this is a pretty human thing and when McLean is so central to our game, it’s not surprising that he ends up being a target for negativity when he doesn’t deserve it and when it’s such a fine line between a fabulous pass and a bad one. He tried it three times, both the ‘crap’ ones actually came to nothing for West Brom as we defended sensibly, but even so in my mind that outweighed all the evidence on the third pass.

PS it’s by-the-by but there may have been a third intercepted pass from McLean - I didn’t check any of the above so I’m going on memory

My general views on Wagner have not changed yet but I have to say that I was impressed with the effort the team put in against Hull and even more impressed from what I have seen, read and been told with the performance against WBA. Let us hope this is not another blip and, not for the first time and unlikely to be the last time, I am forced to eat humble pie. The financial position, however, still gives cause for concern.

Park the bus at Anfield 0-0 them bring them to Carrow Road for a replay, where Adam Idah bags another FA Cup hat trick in a 5-0 win <laugh>

I’m with you. I’ll merrily devour humble pie frequently if it’s the price of these performances.

You should maybe just listen to the commentary only , I have similar days of muttering oh for ****s sake or shaking my head watching.
The midweek Cup game I listened to in bed with my earphones in a Xen like meditative state as the soothing voice of Rob Butler washed over me like a tranquil sea lapping at a tropical beach
