Russ normally gets the changes spot on. I didn’t watch the match so I don’t know how the match was flowing at the time of the subs, but for me Charly is one of our better players without the ball and might have been a better runner for the longer pass than Fraser or Mara.
There were 2 times today, when we were being pressed very quickly that the ball came to Smallbone and he broke the press by letting the ball run across his body and turning into space. Once was second half, on the edge of our 18 yard box, after they had stepped up the pace, and I think it showed that he was so aware of what was going on around him. He was really good against Sheffield Wednesday last week and given MOTM by Sky, so stepping his form up at the right time.
