It may not even be fatigue levels, just that Swansea (like other teams we have played) are happy to sit off us for most of the game. With 10 mins left it’s almost like they are thinking “**** time is running out, we are losing so let’s really go for it” and that’s when the mistakes happen with the playing out from the back. should just be the default that if we are winning we go long for the last 10/15 mins and make the oppo play through the whole team rather than possibly gifting them chances by losing it in our area
I think the question is less over his ability and more should we be messing around with what is currently looking like the joint best CB partnership in the league.
In the opening minutes of the second half Stuart gave the ball away too easily, which seemed to set the tone for everyone to start taking a little too long to move the ball around. We were allowing them to press us higher up the pitch as a direct result of slowing the ball down and maybe less positive movement from the midfield players making themselves available, unlike in the first half. The most worrying thing was how, for the last 15 minutes or so, we became defensively naive and wide open. I thought those days were over.
Quick thought, but given how Rothwell looks set to be used, does this drop Alcaraz even further down the pecking order? I can understand why he isn't making the starting line up at the moment, but I cant see why he's not getting off the bench because he nearly always has a positive impact.
Yeah would be a shame if that is the case. But, the most important thing is cementing our place in the autos. Charly will get his chance again.
BREAKING NEWS: Reports coming in from the Solent on a salvage and rescue operation. The latest confirmed sighting is that HMS Piss the League is afloat and charging towards the Premier League.
Wasn't a great second half, to be sure, but it's hard to get too upset about an away game against a side in decent form where we have outperformed them in every category and won by two. Our next two opponents have 1 win in 13 Championship matches (Rotherdam), and 1 win in 9 (Huddersfield). Time to start building a buffer on the chase pack.
I couldn’t watch today. First one in the sequence I have missed - and we still didn’t lose! Looks like I have more match threads to do…
My grandfather (Andover) circa 1920s began to support SFC before the days at the Dell. This was passed onto my late father who brought me up in the family stand of the Dell (although he sat on the right maybe Milton road, not sure) I would wait untill the big red gates open before FT and walk down to corner flag area where the players would walk out (or in) the tiny corridor just to be near the players which included Moran Golac Shannon Wallace etc. I was so little nobody cared. This was around 1983-88 And now all of us here and around the world can say that we witnessed SOUTHAMPTON FOOTBALL CLUB making new records. It probably won't happen again in our lifetimes, so enjoy it now, celebrate as you see fit and I will remember my father and grandfather who got me into this madness **** that dictates my behaviour on match days. Tell your kids about it, 1920-2024.
Don't worry my grandsons are signed up and fully on board. Whatsapp messages flow during and after matches!!
I was out running for the entire game so had no idea how it had gone. Decided to find out by looking at the table Pressure was on us to put the pressure on the others and ignore the potential side stories of the game affecting us. Massive win COYR
Try and find a way to watch the first 45 minutes in full. And then turn it off, don't bother with the second half.
Anyone know why on Stuie's shirt it just says 'Armstrong', while on Adarma's it says 'A.Armstrong'? Did Stuie win rock paper scissors or something?
