Yeah think they're after Swansea. If we can win 2-3 of the next four then suddenly we're in a much healthier position heading into that game.

Nice to win a game in that manner and to be honest I was expecting us to lose before the game

Also nice not to have a weekend ruined by a friday night result

Not a game which was nice on the eye, but a win and performance that was called for. Liam got his tactics spot on, took the pragmatic approach, which under the circumstances, and the fact we are down to the bare bones, was the right call.

At the end of the day we limited them to very few attempts on goal, one good save from Allsop where the ball was moving in the air and got a strong hand on it was really their best chance.

Coyle was excellent and handled Clark very well, ably assisted by Docherty who I thought also had a good game on the right. Greave's was also excellent, Jones a bit sloppy early on but 2nd half very good.

On the left Matty Jacob again never put a foot wrong and particularly in the 2nd half Lokilo, even though not effective going forward, tracked back and did a good job defensively.

Sharp is looking a wonderful acquisition, he is a very clever player and certainly help when he came on.

Carvalho, even though didn't see a lot of the ball in forward areas, showed his class by finding space to take his goal very well. He will only get better, it's a great pity De Lap being out, as having Jaden/Carvalho and him in the forward line would be very daunting for any defence.

A great way to go into this mini break of 2 weeks, 3 points and a clean sheet, and it allows us to get one or two players back from injury, Jaden in particular, and hopefully 2 or 3 new additions to strengthen the squad.

It was almost Campbell-esque to Windass but from the other side.

Had a feeling we’d nick something. A win’s a win and we certainly needed to grind out a result just to stop the rot. But it was god awful to watch.

Am I the only one who enjoyed the whole game and particularly our performance? Even first half, I was quite happy watching us comfortably contain them when they had the ball and then play it around amongst ourselves when we had it to slow down the tempo to frustrate them and the crowd. I loved it and felt that if anyone was going to score it would be us and especially the longer it went on.
Yeah, we didn’t offer much in an attacking sense but we defended heroically when we had to and the game plan worked perfectly.
A brilliant effort under difficult circumstances from the management team and the players.

I actually totally agree with this, the way we passed it in really tight spaces was very good, unfortunately I didn’t get to see the second half as had a prearranged thing to do so could not put a comment in the MOTM thread. I thought we were the better side in the first half. Onwards and upwards lads… we’ll done !!!!

Great result, I was going to the pub to watch it, but decided to stay at home & not watch it, backed Sun’lan too, so that’s a waste <cheers>!
I see we’re now on 42 points, which as we all know is the answer to everything, however, are we actually safe from relegation yet? Or is that around 48-50 points?

I 'love' games like last nights (albeit in a very masochistic way), but only at the final whistle! I spent all the time after we'd scored clock watching.

    75 minutes... 80 minutes... 85 minutes... 90 minutes... 95 minutes.

It reminded me of a game against Boro a few years ago which took a similar path. Pretty much on the back foot until near the end of the game, then the classiest player on the pitch pops up to win it. (Carvalho with great technique last night, it was KLP cutting in from the left in the Boro game).

We defended magnificently last night. Restricted them to a few speculative shots and happy to give them as many corners as they want as they're worse at delivering them than we are.

    Happy days. UTT.

Sheer guts and determination last night. Given our circumstances with players out injured that could well be the most important 3 points of the season. One of those games where we couldn’t really concede first and that’s how it panned out. Lovely strike from Carvalho to bring home the spoils in a game that didn’t do the Championship much justice really but I doubt few will give a rats Harris about that.

Kudos to Rosenior who got his team selection and tactics absolutely spot on. Frustrated Sunderland and the home crowd.

It wasn’t pretty, but it was necessary. A brilliant 3 points.
