Unless we sort out our leaky back four we're going nowhere no matter how many strikers we sign - we cant start each game knowing we need to score three because we know we're going to let in two
I think it’s exactly what we need, if we’ve got two quick wide men who can chase the odd ball over the top.
I would say a target man would be ideal. We don't want 3 of the same striker, you want different options.
Delap was essentially a modern target man. Held the ball up, linked the play together, and with him we look much better. Moore would be more old fashioned but would get us up the pitch just with a more brutish style, but he also has the poacher side too
It's unlikely that Delap will play any significant role for us during the rest of this season, unfortunately.
It’s clear that with Delap maybe never playing for us again that we need another main man, might just be a stop gap till summer but getting Moore in on a long term deal wouldn’t be bad business at all.
Doom and gloom merchants out again. I still think we will end up signing Delap whatever role he plays for the rest of the season.
If he doesn’t play again this season, that might give us a better chance of getting him back for next.
"I'd be crazy now (if we didn't look to sign a striker), before Aaron's situation, we were umming and ahhing trying to plan the squad the best way we can, but now it's kind of forced our hand a little bit. We're reliant on Billy who hasn't played for a long time and we're reliant on Tyrell Sellars-Fleming, who's done brilliant, but he's a kid. For us to get to where we want to be and be a top-six team, you need a squad and that's something we'll look to address in the next few days. "Having a focal point is so important in this league, having someone who can finish off your chances is so important. My job is always to make the best of what I've got. I never complain. I will never complain, especially working with this group. I love them to pieces. "They're doing everything right. Training's been fantastic the last two days and I back whatever team I put out tomorrow to make the shirt proud." "You can see by my smile - we're in negotiations with a player in a key area of the pitch. It's a player who if we sign, will go straight into the team and will be a top player for any team at this level. I can't say at the moment. That's something that we're in negotiations with the club about whether it's a loan with a view to a permanent, whether it's a straight loan. I want players who think about being here for the long term. "It's very important to me now that can be off a straight loan as well, but I want the player that I'm speaking about in particular to think there's a real chance of him being here, not just for this season, but for the seasons to come."
Any defender who won the ball but lead with an arm to the face and cleaned the player out, would give away at least a free kick. It was given against Greaves earlier in the season, and he got booked, and the challenge was much milder than that.
Kiefer Moore? The last thing we need is non scoring striker. Though he would be good for booking points in an acca.
Makes a lot of sense that as questioning our back four as a unit rarely get’s mentioned. Whilst Greaves, Jones and Coyle all did well in L1 from memory there is an argument the step up to the Championship has at times been unforgiving . Obviously more to this as most sides defend as a team with wide players niw coming back to help our th wingbacks. Not suggesting for a moment the commitment and determination isn’t still there from said players but they are fundamentally a huge part of a defence which for me certainly collectively is our Achilles heel at times and one that still requires an adequate No1 keeper.
We’re actually watching a worse defence right now then under McCann and Shota in 21/22. Much better attack but as it ****ing should be after the spend.
