There's no question he is a visionary and is able to map out the long term. When he became chairman he was already talking about building a new stadium at a time when doing such a thing without bankrupting or at best severely handicapping a club (Reebok stadium, Stadium of Light, even the Emirates totally derailed Arsenal's success and they still haven't recovered) was unheard of. To stick to that vision and deliver not just a new stadium but something revolutionary and to do it without impacting the club's finances whatsoever is genuinely up there with the greatest sports related achievements in history.

My one gripe with Levy has always been, and I see this a lot in people who are visionaries and get fixated on the long term, is that they sometimes lose sight of the little 'unimportant' details of the here and now, often making decisions that unwittingly don't make any sense and/or leaving parts of the here and now neglected. I think we saw both of these traits very strongly in the build up to and immediate aftermath of the stadium move and are still picking up the pieces years later. He basically took his eye off the ball. However, because the overarching long term vision was designed to keep us financially healthy, I think it's clear that we won't take as long as others did to match and then build on the strong baseline we established just before the stadium build.

Shaw is decent but he’s not great.

Yeah there doesn’t seem to be many good quality left backs around at the moment.

I wouldn’t say the best one yet. The potential is huge though. Like others have said, he’s probably 2-3 seasons away from being wanted by the likes of Man City or Real Madrid if he keeps progressing and learning at this rate.

    In poker terms :

    1. Levy plays by the numbers and has never been intoxicated
by winning one large pot once every several hands.

    2. New WHL means he now has much more stake money to play with.

I'm thinking who is currently better than him and would probably say Robertson, Estupinan and Chilwell, although the latter is always injured.

Like you say, his ceiling is ridiculously high.

Dalot plays both sides, hence he's the understudy for Luke Shaw. You're getting desperate at this point

Ange needed Overseas spots so we could get Mickey Van and Solomon into the squad (and Lo Celso, given he's still in the squad) and those were at a premium due to our hodgepodge transfer policy meaning our Overseas spots were filled with players even though some either didn't make the grade (Sanchez), are going to be a drain on our resources for years (Ndombele), or we tried to move them on in the summer but they didn't leave due to injury (Perisic) or the offers didn't match their expectations (Lloris), and that is why Reguilon has been loaned - especially since Timo Werner has been loaned in and that takes up one of the spots which were freed up by Lloris and Dier leaving this window

If you want to look at players who Ange doesn't rate, start with Tanganga and Spence as they don't take up Overseas spots, yet Ange couldn't pack them off fast enough

Dan KP is threatening us with a good time by suggesting that we're about to reap what the FFP negligent clubs have sown

In other words, expect a bunch more Connor Gallagher and Joao Gomes stories for the next couple of weeks, because after Everton and Forest they're next

I’m not desperate at all. I’m spitting facts. You said Reguilon is a top player, the evidence backs up my opinion that he isn’t.

You bringing in Ndombele, Spence etc to deflect and dilute my argument is vintage HBIC.

You haven't sit a single fact in the three days you've been getting weirdly obsessed with Reguilon going back out on loan

Me bringing up examples of players that Ange actually doesn't want around, be it for attitude reasons or because they simply would not survive 90 minutes of Angeball, isn't diluting your argument - it's underlining how you haven't spat a single fact in three days of posting about the same subject

    RE Reguilon,

I think he’s actually a decent LB. He struggles more on the defensive side but then most modern FBs do, he does do pretty well going forward. I also like that he’s always willing to run that line too, compare him to Sessegnon who ****s the bed at thought of moving forward and it’s just one of the reasons I could never understand why the latter has been kept in place. If the sole reason was HG purposes, I can accept it, if anything else comes into play I’d strongly disagree as the Spaniard’s better all over the park.

I think he would/ can make a decent understudy to Udogie in Ange’s system but equally I don’t think Reguilon wants to be a second choice player, which is fair enough but further shows why Davies has gained a lot of respect due to his 100% commitment to Spurs regardless of his place in or out of the team.

I think he’s good enough to play for many teams in England and abroad. Perhaps not an elite side, but a lot of decent ones and those looking to finish in or around the Conference or Europa spots.

I said Reguilon wasn’t good enough for a top side. He’s been at Spurs for 4 years nearly and never really looked good over a sustained period. He’s had 3 loan moves and been sent back after making little to no impact every single time.

He’s ended up at Brentford (16th in the league) after being sent back at the earliest opportunity by Man Utd. Spurs took less than two weeks to get rid of him again.

You were banging on about Dortmund being interested but they went for a player from Chelsea who is hardly great over Reguilon.

All of the above is true.

So if he's not good enough for a top side, why do top sides like Atletico Madrid and Man Utd* loan him in then?

Why did man Utd identify him as someone to cover for the injured Luke Shaw if he is not good enough for a top side?

Why did he play a run of games for Man Utd before picking up a knock?

These are facts, and you are denying them

I’m not saying he didn’t go on loan to those clubs. I’m saying by now clubs are aware of his ability or lack of and that this time he wouldn’t get a big move because he’s not taken the opportunities he’s been given.

Even you would agree that Brentford aren’t the same level of Man Utd or Atlético.

And again I’ll predict confidently that Brentford won’t keep him on a permanent deal after this loan move because again he will do what he always does and that is not much.
