Celebrating here by the river! I missed the goal due to an utter fiasco but I’ll save that for another day/thread. Cheers everyone https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/67984498 also, forgot to mention that at half time the tills in the bar all failed - free beer for everyone at the back of the Dolman - cheers Stevie L!!!
I am somewhat at a loss to describe our play tonight but the first thing to mention is about the tackle that went unpunished that actually should have been a red every time. A shocking over the top challenge that needed to be dealt with but no VAR gave us a break and we took advantage of a bad missed call. West Ham were very poor themselves due to injuries and Afcon commitments but nevertheless we showed up well at times and saw out the tie to meet Blackpool or Notts Forest in the next round. Mind you there was a lot of our play out there that at times was our usual shocking and I think he had played a better team than WHU fielded tonight we may have come out with different result. I am still so tired of seeing this mucking about with the ball just outside our own penalty area and the constant passing across and back and the main reason I fear that is because we have several players more than capable of making a mistake and that would include Max and Zak again. However I'll take the win in what was a poor watch but that is so Bristol City and I liked the result better than the display.
Great win even if it wasn’t a full strength West Ham As another poster said it’s s shame we don’t play like that in the league Having said all that I still think we need a striker a play-maker midfielder and a keeper
In an ideal world I agree, as it’s not football manager, but the real world we’re not going to get all those. Twine is supposed to be the playmaker, and I believe the powers that be think we’ll score goals if the service from midfield improves. I agree, but still feel we need a more physical striker to enable us to change it up a bit.
It was just wishful thinking. I don't really expect the suits to cough up any money to actually address these issues, and it's probably best to wait for the Summer Transfer Window to open, rather than pay over the odds right now and buy in desperation. Even though we won last night, the shortfalls in the side are there for all to see. On another day we'd have been soundly beaten and punished for our wastefulness in front of goal and goalkeeping mistakes.
I think Conway and Wells can score more with better service, but we don't have a true No 9 who can bully defences and cause havoc in the box. I'm not sure if Nige thought that was what Cornick would bring, but it isn't, he's far more a No 10, and is rarely in the middle for balls in. For me, he's the one to go, as he doesn't offer more than Conway, Bell or Wells
So West Ham had some injured players out, they still had 11 internationals in the team, we had players out as well, well done City, the Hammers didn’t like it up em
Hi specsavers are doing a non tinted rose coloured spec's at bogof ! I thought he had quite a good game, they BCFC, held a reasonably strong shape at the back and knew where they passing [ defensively/ start of attack/ possession ... all players made errors but that is down to the pace they are trying to play at. WHU top 6 prem won 3 and drawn 1 last against teams in top 8 of Prem... not to be sniffed at!
Pretty much agree with this, Max was max, made a couple of blunders whilst the save in the second half was a worldy, as good as a goal. It’s why I say stick with him, he has the ability but at times a lack of belief.
His fumbles made my heart skip a beat at times, but ‘that’ save was world class. The ball was dipping and would have gone in. Any one of those comical fumbles could have led to us conceding a goal - but they didn’t - and his save kept the score at 1-0.
there were 2 or 3 "off ball" and close encounters that went un "punished" ... think the ref got it right and did a fine job .. there were times it got heated but other than Benrahma incident control of the game was allowed to "flow" 2 bookings each
