He's said development signings come to him late in the process. I'm sure he had a veto but they weren't at Brighton the same time so it's the recruitment committee that did the legwork.
We missed out on a number of keeping targets but wanted someone who could play with the ball at his feet. Allsop was clearly brought in as a stop-gap. As OLM said, you're making an awfully big assumption that Pandur will come in and Allsop will just never play again. Even putting that aside, having him as a back up keeper is also fine given our outlay on him. We bought Steve Harper when we were in the PL and he barely played but when he did he was fine for instance. No waste at all.
Even the fact he's here on a two year contract not a four or five year contract says a lot. We've got a year out of him as essentially first choice, and if Pandur is as good as you claim, he'll be a Cup and depth keeper next season and then we'll consider our options with him. Yeah Rosenior has never been exageratedly positive for the sake of it. You honestly believe he was our first choice when Tan and others spoke of our pursuit of Darlow?
Strange comparison, Harper was a very good keeper and could actually save shots. Should’ve played in the cup final too with McGregor not fully fit. Also Harper was brought in as backup not as first choice keeper.
The comparison was to signing a cheap keeper who was fine when he played. Perfectly fine comparison. So because we did it in reverse it was a waste? If we'd bought Harper first then bought McGregor in January then Harper would have been pointless?
4 or 5 year contract "If Pandur is as good as you claim". I've not claimed anything about him!!! Other than expecting, like most others, that he's brought in to be our #1. A year out of Allsop as #1?!? 4 & a bit months
You've claimed he's coming in to be an automatic number one and having any other keeper on the books who can play the way we want is a waste.
We are nearly paying 1.5 million for Pandur he won’t be number two for long. Especially the way pan hands performs. Ingham will be off I assume.
If you assume Ingram's off then we've paid 250k for someone to be back up keeper who we've already got maybe 10 games out of. Is that a waste? Would it have been more palatable if we'd got Pandur in the summer and then decided to bring in some depth 6 months later? I just don't get the teeth gnashing over Allsop, Furlong et al when they cost peanuts.
FFS stop talking crap, just because someone has a different view and or opinion to you doesn't mean they have an axe to grind. And as for it only being £250k etc. I'd rather of saved that £250k + wages etc by not signing a player that has given us no real improvement over what we already had and then spent that £250k on revamping the recruitment team we have and bring in people who can find us players that actually improve us and not players like allsop.
After Doncaster when everyone was on Ingram's back and ready to write him off I'm sure people would have been happy to just throw Lo-Tutala in to save a few quid.
No you're right, you know way more then me about what I'd do, not even sure why I even thought about it when I could just ask you and you'd tell me what I'd do....
Allsop has five CS for the season against Leeds, Birmingham, PNE, Hudd, Cardiff, how many does Ingram have..? Reports of Allsop's ****ness are greatly exaggerated, but that seems the way of things these days. Players are either rubbish or brilliant.
