If the had bought him, or had loan to buy in his contract like TGH I’d be happy with him coming, as it stands he isn’t our player and any potential deal behind the scenes is indeed crystal ball gazing. Like Nige I’m not a fan of loans, especially short term ones. I would rather we bring someone in permanent or not bother.

No chance we’d let him go for £2m, especially in Jan when prices are always higher, he’s also on a long contract, I’m sure Rod will have the details
Matty James still 'massive' for Liam Manning as Bristol City captaincy question emerges Bristol City's official skipper Andi Weimann signed for West Brom this week, while No2 Matty James has been in and out of the team of late https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/matty-james-bristol-city-captaincy-9037694
They have signed the young lad from Liverpool on loan who also plays in that position. No point having a player on loan at a club where he may not play. I suspect we have guaranteed a certain amount of game time. He would be a depreciating asset at Hull for the second half of the season, and Burnley cannot afford that.
we are not privy to how much they are prepared to offer! this is your interpretation... and fair enough we all have ideas on values and what we might guess isan amount we would LIKELY want to pay! let us assume [ assume capital A ! ] we need a player like Twine.. a number 9 .. to replace say Nahki? to compliment Conway ... ? NP was building toward a squad that might have been a this or next season promotion hopeful ? When all fit we basically just need 2 main players [ as above ] Within the Academy we have a number of hopefuls and if past is a guide over the next 2 seasons [ 2 1/2 inc remainder of this one ] we are likely to get 5 make it into the squad ! SO spending just half of the AS fee and other player sales income, present and 2 seasons forward! .. £15m is not a unrealistic amount for 2 players ! ? far better results will attract slightly higher gate average .. draw more attention from TV and may even allow for progress to / beyond 3 FA cup rounds! [ even the "LEAGUE CUP" !! ] WHAT ARE WE LIKELY to get from playing West Ham ... £1.1m? ...... thats 2 players on £10k a week for next season!
I'm not against 'try before you buy' loans as NP certainly was, probably the only disagreement me and Nige had.
it has nothing to do with the media figure [ plucked from the media cloud in the sky by them! ] BUT your comment states " it is it’s more than we’re prepared to offer," [ which we dont know! you are using a supposition of the price ] they might want £2m... £7m even £10m or they might want £2m plus a 30% add on of onward sale! ......... Thinking Webster! ..........and we dont know how much we would pay!
But we do know we weren’t prepared to pay what they wanted, or else they would have accepted our offer. That’s the point
TGH apparently cost just around £1+ million..! ..[ Final settlement? ! ] we were paying his wages! SO I wonder how much he is on now! Twine... we will be paying his wages plus a loan fee so maybe loan fee is part of the deal for end of season ... all supposition of course! On our side is the fact we have just shown how good we can be and hopefully a pre summer transfer contract can be signed if he turns out to be a "a new family jewel"
Here we go again, after our family silver, Tommy, Pringy,Bell and Vyner, I wonder how long before the Lansdowns do a smash and grab.. Nottingham Forest, Wolves among clubs tracking Bristol City star, report claims https://the72.co.uk/2024/01/17/nott...ubs-tracking-bristol-city-star-report-claims/
Inevitable that it will happen given recent history. But as Leon Osman pointed out live on BBC TV yesterday evening, fans are used to seeing the best talent we produce get sold on the the highest bidder, but at some point we should maybe try and retain them for a couple of seasons and see if we can make the big time. Trouble is, that won't be in the Lansdowns business plan
