I think he’ll be Dobbo’s replacement. I hope I’m wrong and Dobbo will stay, but I can’t see it.

Fraser is weak so he doesn’t count.

And Camara also. We haven’t won a single game that Camara has started and finished and I think we’ve lost all but one of them. Very overrated and I’d happily see him depart. Not the player he was since his surgery. Who’d have thought it.

When the transfer window closes we will have 17 or 18 games left to play I assume.

As one measure of whether the window has improved our squad, at the end of the season we can compare the number of points Charlton earn in those "post-transfer-window" games, with the number of points we earned in the same number of games beforehand.

So as soon as the window has closed we can calculate a 'target' number of points to earn by the end of the season in order to show a material improvement in form. If we earn one more point than the target figure, the January window can be considered to be a success <doh>

While in the meantime the top Clubs 25 points or more above us fight it out for a proper prize - promotion out of this lower league.
Let's see where we are :emoticon-0126-nerd: at the end of January.

If Dobbo leaves the club to go and play in Hungary it will mean that those responsible didn't try too hard to keep him. For someone who has been a one-man midfield at times that would be a poor show.

If we’re ambitious then we sign the likes of Coventry AND keep Dobbo.

Good point, but that was over 26 years ago.

How many punts have we had since then that turned out to be duds ? Especially since we’ve had ESI, TS and SE7 partners in charge.

I think our recent history is more telling.

Well I’m going to leave it there until the window closes and we see what we’ve got - I’m sure we’ll see an upward turn in the football, hard to get much worse , this is not a five minute fix

Indeed not. Nor five hours, nor five days, nor five weeks, nor five months. It’s a five year fix at least apparently.

If we’re still playing at The Valley in five years and if crowds are still above 5,000 at home in five years and if the current ‘owners’ are still funding the losses in five years and if the five years hasn’t been extended again to 10 years (it’s already gone up from four windows to five years in a year) then I’m sure everything will be fine.

Let’s see where we are in five years.

But in the meantime there are a lot more dark clouds blowing our way………

It took SCP one summer's transfer activity to transform a mediocre squad to a record-breaking one.

Bear in mind the problem here may be JCH. Peterborough have two weeks to try and sell a player who will walk for free in the summer - their usual hard bargaining stance has been unravelled by a player who knows he can get a better wage packet if he stays put till the end of june. So all this about him having a great offer from Charlton has a lot more to do with Peterborough wanting to get some sort of payment for their player.
For us, my feeling is that JCH is ina position where he can do what he wnats. If he has a good offer from us, he can take it and we'll get it done, but if he wants to hang about playing silly buggers and maybe leave us hih and dry because Derby (just an example) come in with a better bid on hjanuary 30th, we should walk away now. I have nothing against a player trying to cover himself for later life, but thanks all the same, not at our expense. The Cheltenham lad sounds as if it may happen (though there is a counter offer from Oxford, which he could probably commute daily, so we'll see, but JCH is starting to feel like a Lyle Taylor type, with dollar signs in his eyes.

    All agreed.

Although we wouldn’t have got promoted without Lyle.

David Bowie once wrote a song called Five Years.

It was somewhat reminiscent of this post - only a bit more more optimistic <laugh>
