Thank you Benfica and a job well done. Maybe the prawn sandwich brigade will all choke! It was even better also see ****arito not save the match for you! Happy times!
Completely agree mate. We have cocked up well and proper this year - even in the seasons when we weren't great in the group stages we usually got maximum points when needed at OT. Tho' I reckon if we get drawn against Real the game will be pretty tight as I can't see us staying this bad until March. Would you like some lemon on that bitter? Very true. Looks like a rebuilding period this year, a la 05/06. Fingers crossed that will convince SAF to make similar quality signings in the January window
You lot might not be for long either No doubt you'll get gifted a victory in the last game but even so a piss easy group you should easily have qualified from by now. Even a good result could at best get you 2nd in the group and make for much harder knockout games. Playing like you have done so far and Barca, Real or Bayern will rip you a new arsehole so maybe less embarrassing to just go out at this stage
The sad thing is most of this post is what i expect to happen We still look likely to get further than city atleast.
On the plus side for you it's going to surely prompt a bit of cash to go on a strong centre midfielder even if it's probably 12 months late.
Aye, for all the spending and strengthening over the summer the overall quality and consistency of the top teams doesn't seem to have gone up that much from last year. And I definitely agree about City having mistakes in them and switching off but not getting punished - the CL has shown that they are still vulnerable. Just gotta hope that other teams in the PL manage to punish them later on this season
Interesting looking at City, United, chelsea and Arsenal that european performances have been almost the inverse to the league (not that the latter two have been great, My god the premier league is **** nowdays)
First thing I said after the group draw was that I wanted to get someone from that group in the last-16.
No league is really strong. Serie A is dire and outside of the top 2 La Liga is utter ****e. I thought Man City's lack of experience would cost them while we have played like we've already won before we've even stepped out onto the pitch.
Maybe our league is more competitive overall. I dont doubt that the likes of Newcastle and Stoke would beat their spanish equivilents. But in terms of "the big 4" we are as weak as we have been for a long time. You talk about their lack of experience, but their star players are not excatly new to this competition
According to the Scotch fella you played well and were unlucky. Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson: "The goals were a bit freakish. An own goal and then bad kick out by David de Gea. The pass back could have been better but David should have played it into the stands and we didn't hold onto the lead. We played well tonight, and the team deserved better. It's a cruel game at times. It will be a hard game in Basel. The chips are down but I have every confidence in the team."
