But under Nige we sold the family silver and replaced them with barely adequate players Managers come and go but we still have the same ingrained issues at the club And we won’t be signing great players under Manning either Said it before, but this group of players are not good enough to even finish in the top half of the league, let alone challenge for promotion or the play offs
I’m sure at some point he will get another job at this level, as someone else will be seduced by his ‘previous experience’. It didn’t do us any good, so good luck to anyone else who employs him tbh.
A loan signing for them. Just shows, you don’t need lots of money, just good scouts and recruitment. We haven’t had that for a while now.
Today's performance clearly shows that we have made absolutely no progress in making Bristol City a team that can thrive at this level. All of the problems that have beset us for way too many seasons are still there and I can't see any way we can change it because a single player won't meet the remit. Looking at the overall picture we are way too weak in goalkeeping and when you put a confused defensive back line in front of that you are doomed to failure. We take far too long to transition from defence to attack and to do that you need a creative midfield to push us forward and we don't have that in abundance either. When the ball finally makes the opposition penalty area we have nobody capable of creativity to put the ball in the net and our set plays are ludicrous in the extreme. Cornick, Mehmeti, Wells and Conway are all weak and the young guns that were expected to step up their individual efforts after last summer's departures are all failing to meet the standard. I was unable to pick a single player out there today who was worthy of their salary and the second half capitulation combined with the shoulder dropping when Max gave the game away was sad to see. Our current squad is weak beyond belief and although we had a purple patch a several weeks ago the shine has worn off only to be boosted by the cup game at West Ham. Well I suppose we will start hearing about all the good stuff we can do in the summer with player exits and changes but based on what was on display today I fear for Liam and the support that may be lacking. Bad day all around.
That second half was as timid as I’ve seen us play for ages. What happened to the team that stuffed Watford? Of course, it happened to be vs PNE who haven’t won for ages and not kept a clean sheet since MARCH LAST YEAR. UTTER RUBBISH
Another good post elsewhere On the 31st October when Nigel Pearson was sacked we were 15th with an horrendous injury list . 74 days later we are 14th . Progress do you think everyone. Top 6 ?
As angelic says the ingrained issues are still with us and unless the owners are prepared to do what is obviously necessary then our complaints and wishes are both a waste of time. Things haven't changed at Ashton Gate for decades and I can't see it happening over the transfer window or even the summer when you sell your assets to buy less than average replacements and also expect good things to happen. I am truly starting to think that we employ players who won't listen to the coaching they get and are incapable of putting their training to good use and when I constantly see free kicks and corners failing to get over the first player it makes me wonder if they have ever read the book on how to play this game? The word "final" came out many times during today's commentary and how true that is when you consider how many final passes go astray and how many final touches don't meet the required standard to make them count? Liam has a major task on his hands to convince me that his tenure is going to be any different to what has gone before him and I have to hope that he has the savvy to know what he needs, but whether or not he gets the support from the top to get us there is the biggest question to which we mostly know the answer. Same old stuff rears it's ugly head in the last 45 minutes and if we play like that against West Ham watch out.
Emergency dental root canal for me so only watched 2nd half. Brilliant save from Max early, then he gifted them the breakthrough. 2nd goal was down to Dickie not trying to close down the cross and Vyner sleeping at the near post. Noticed Vyner and Max arguing after, whether Vyner thought Max should have come for it who knows. Awful watch again and my first impression when he came hasn't changed...... Mehmeti is a wasteful show pony.
