I'm, sorry to say this - but, stop whinging. you chose to live in France, which above almost all other countries, isn't interested in compromising with other cultures. Just be grateful you don't live here ( I would say 'sh*thole , but that has been copyrghted by James Dimly . sorry , Cleverly.)

    Did it arrive?

Because round our way we also have the postal service to deal with....as you know in France...addresses can be very confusing....

Meanwhile...any snow....? I have heard rumours

Yes it arrived, two days earlier than predicted, but I am not sure that it is the right light. I will find out on Wednesday when my garage man is going to fit it and change the wiring round. Deliveries are better now that we all have house numbers and street names that appear on satnavs. A bit of a revolutionary idea when your postie has been doing the same round for years, and knows who everyone is.
No snow here, but it could be different up in the hills. Oh, hang on, some of the roofs are turning white, yet I cannot see any snowflakes. It must be very light. Currently -1°C with a top temperature of +1°C forecast by the Météo, so far from warm. Have a good day everyone.

Morning all. Took my replacement rear light for Mme's car to the garage, only to find that one side of the car has one set of bulb holders and electrical connections that is totally different to the other side. I have ordered another one that hopefully is correct, but suspect that to send the wrong one back will cost more than I paid for it. I still have a minor leak at the junction between the outbuilding's new roof and the house that was going to be fixed today, but it is too cold to use cement. Progress is slow. Have a good day everyone. <ok>

Morning all. A lovely crisp morning if you like bright sunshine and a heavy frost. One little cottage and the adjoining house, which have been on the market for years, have been sold to some people from Belgium. They are gutting both at the moment, and I guess will be turning them into one larger property. The little cottage was one of those that through inheritance became owned by numerous cousins, all of them having different ideas about how much it was worth, and what they could do with it. One part owner put in an offer to the others to buy them out, but another refused to accept, so it has been empty for 30 - 40 years. Now we see the contents, such as an old cooker, bed, and table with chairs coming out, having sat in there for all that time. It will be good to see another property being made habitable, the last one in our little community and if we are all here at the same time we will have, 7 French, 5 English, 1 Dutch and 1 Belgian household. The one from Portugal left as he couldn't stand the crisp mornings at this time of year. Have a good day everyone. <ok>

Good day all. Been doing bits and bobs this morning around the house, but it is wet and cold, 3°C outside, so stayed inside. As of tomorrow, I can reclaim my right to vote in UK elections that I lost under the 15-year rule. As I still pay a small amount of tax in the UK I feel I should have the right to say how I wish it to be spent. Most other countries set up polling stations for their nationals living abroad, so this is the first step to the UK catching up. Even cologne, who has been out of the country longer than I have will now be able to have his say if he wants to. It will be interesting to see how many of the 3 million actually take up the option. Have a good day everyone. <ok>

Morning all. I am glad to say it is a bit warmer today, but very overcast, and rain cannot be too far away. Mme's car has finally had the rear lights restored, that required some rewiring. I have no idea, despite watching, how the garage man knew which wire did what. "Just experience", he said. I now have a selection of light bulbs that I can keep as spares, and not be able to find if I need one. Have a good day all.

Could make for interesting viewing tomorrow - coverage of the Japanese attempt to land on the moon, estimated to occur at 14:00 UK time.

Morning all. A bright blue sky, but a heavy frost. The interview with Ben Hamer in the WO is interesting. The fact he had to learn English having been to a German school reminds me of my granddaughter who had to learn French having been to an English school. She was lucky that there is a very small local school here that had the staff and time to help her learn quickly. Despite watching her gossip away with her French friends, she was very nervous when she applied to go to Uni. and had to take a language test. She was told after the oral, the part she was dreading, that she was far better than the average native speaker, because they become sloppy in their usage. Have a good day everyone. <ok>

Wasn't very interesting at all - the 14:00 eta dragged out for around three hours before a news conference revealed that, yes it got there, but the solar panels that power it weren't working and no data was being sent back.

Which begs the question - if they're not getting any data, how do they know it got there?

Morning all. Wet and very windy in rural France this morning, but nowhere near as bad as some places in the UK. A strange thing is to be seen across the country these days. As you enter a town or village, the nameplate is still there, but upside down. It is seemingly the work of farmers who are protesting about the prices they are receiving from the large supermarkets. Today the protest has gone up a level, with some autoroutes blocked by tractors. Although they should get a fair price for their produce, many people struggle with the price increases at the shops. It seems, by comments, that the farmers will get support, providing it doesn't put prices up. Have a good day everyone. <ok>

Never heard a thing last night, and no rain here - but according to The Highlands and Islands weather site we had guests of 100mph.

Must be true though - took the dog for a walk in the woods and found half the trees had blown over.

Where we live now in Leeds our bedroom is in the attic...and in the high winds the gusts dance along the roof rattling and lifting the tiles as they go......not very restful.................
