Sunak says Labour can now talk to the civil service in advance of any election. My bet is Sept this year.
I reckon unless there's a significant shift in the polls he'll want to clock up 2 years so it'll be late October or November.
Aye, probably. Cant see the polls changing, they couls pull rabbits of hats all year long but the public and media have had enough. They are done. I was reading about the role of reform recently. Some polls suggest ex Labour voters who gave the tories their vote last time are going there and not back to labour. Ironically it may end up with even more seats for labour, unless Lib Dems can do something special.
Ironically, given the title of the thread, I think it was Johnson who killed the current Tory party. All the dressing up, 'hilarious jokes' and capers with JCBs and zipwires fooled people for a while and MPs were happy to go along with virtually anything that won them seats. But he was ultimately divisive and incapable of actually doing the job. Those who pretended to back him had to quickly distance themselves and back the next PM, then the next. They'd run against each other and pull each other to pieces, then pretend to back each other despite the obvious hatred. With all the sackings, resignations and by elections there's no way back imo. I've no idea if Sunak's any good tbh, like many people I just gave up listening. How Boris thinks he looks and how he actually looks please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
No doubt Johnson is culpable. I have said before I think he was a PM for a crisis, just not the one he got. Too complicated for him I think and he was a poor judge of character in terms of who he trusted. I think a lot of govts just run out of steam after so long in power, or maybe they take power as meaning absolute authority. This lot have, the last lot did. If it were a boxing match it would be stopped because they are on the ropes and cant get off them. Then there is the infighting. In some ways the tories have had some extraordinary things to deal with like Covid and Brexit. Not every action and policy choice has been bad. But when they have made an arse of things it has been spectacularly bad. We have an outgoing Tory MP here. She has been in post for a long time, backbencher but who has done a lot of local good actually. An MP who seems to stand for her region. She personally supported some local things I was involved with. I dont agree with her party politics, but she has done her job well and with integrity. Labour have classified us as a non-battleground seat. We dont have a candidate yet, and if we do I suspect it means they will be on there own. The tories will probably win here again, a typical rural community which Labour seem not too interested in. I have my suspicions this time about why they wont fight too hard round here, and it isnt because the tories have it sown up. There is an appetite for change here, which is quite something and says a lot about the current conservative party.
FFS, if this government was in a comedy sitcom people would say it was way too far fetched ... ... we're now taking asylum seekers from the country the PM has decreed totally safe "It means more asylum seekers have arrived in Britain from Rwanda than vice versa since the agreement was signed, which still stands at zero. It comes despite the UK Government paying Kigali £240m for the partnership so far, with a further £50m payment expected later this year." https://inews.co.uk/news/politics/u...-deportation-deal-deemed-country-safe-2853627
Who he trusted ? He's one of the biggest lying coonts in parliament and that takes some doing Have you seen the contracts these wànkers dished out to friends especially during the pandemic and for zero return ? https://www.theguardian.com/politic...164m-in-ppe-contracts-after-vip-lane-referral https://www.bmj.com/content/375/bmj.n2825 Roland rat sunak is worth around 750 million and his wife is a billionaire. Wtf does he want to be an MP for erm Boris the coont. Recently paid cash of 3.8 million for a house. No questions asked Try and draw £380 thousand or even £38 thousand out of your bank account. If you have it of course. If you do under a mattress, try and spend it as cash https://jacobin.com/2023/06/boris-johnson-tories-prime-minister-covid-lying-corruption-conservatives They're all cùnts, whooping before covid that nurses didn't get a pay rise. Praising nurses during pandemic, (and partying )stabbing them in the back afterwards. The evidence stacks up no end yet some are so fùcking thick to say "well the Tories are against immigration" FFS 13 years in and the NHS is virtually ruined. Theres more asylum seekers than ever. Billions have been wasted and we are paying at least double for most things. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news...pe-contracts-denials-and-a-government-lawsuit Rant over
Voters are braving temperatures as low as -23C (-9F) after winter storms blanketed the state in snow and ice. The candidates have been urging their supporters to brave the weather, with Trump saying: "Even if you vote and then pass away, it's worth it."
Lee Anderson and Brendan Clarke-Smith have resigned their positions as deputy Conservative chairmen, after saying they would back rebel amendments on the Rwanda bill. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-politics-67998491
Take control of our borders ffs ... ... they can't even control their own Ministers. At least we're rid of those inept men in suits who wasted millions of ridiculous schemes.
I visually dislike Clark-Smith, but have to hand it to him for resigning on principles. This isn't the vote that's going to rock Sunak off his perch, tomorrow night's is D-day
FFS, does this party still believe in democracy We're not only passing laws declaring Rwanda safe when it's clearly not, Priti Patel now wants to force the Civil Service to ignore court judgements and make people board the planes ... ... perhaps Gary Lineker was right, they sound more like the Nazi party every day. They'll be alienating the whole of Europe next
If a government thinks they do not have to obey the international rule of law, then why should it's citizens obey that government's particular laws? It's like a parent who smokes telling their children not to
Seem Rwanda are getting political pressure from other African nations not to accept any refugees as it doesn't look right. Good on them. Their leader has offered to return the £450m and Rachel Reeves has said labour would take them up on this and spend the money on processing the refugees better.
I was amazed to see we're taking asylum seekers from Rwana ... ... a country so safe even the locals are trying to get out
I'm generally against the 'attack ads' we're beginning to see - for my money copying American politics would be a disaster and it reeks of not being able to talk about your own policies. However, Better Call Keir is very funny.
All attack ads are pathetic in my opinion. In a grown up society, where people want to form a judgement, politics shouldnt be played at this base level.
