Trippier has been piss poor for months though. Clarke was massively outclassed and I don’t think that’s a one-off if I’m honest I think it would take him time to get used to the PL. He was pocketed off Justin against Leicester too who obvs has PL experience.

Yeah I think it's narrow minded if that's the right term to say he was bad against Trippier therefore he'd be bad against everyone in the prem. He came up against a top fullback on the top of his game which was ironic given his recent form.

As you say that won't always be the case and he will also learn how to deal with it better when it does happen. I'd say he's making constant progress with using the ball better and giving it away less.

Interesting mate, and you might be right. I thought he had a real ball carrying threat against Leicester. Justin was good in those key moments, but Clarke carried it a long way at times and it seemed a good match up. Mind you my memory at the minute is doing my old head in so I could be wrong.

Was talking to a scout about 3 months ago about Clarke. They thought he would go to a top 10 prem side. They said his ability to break from his own half and make 50, 60 yards was a real attraction for sides who are more counter attacking. Why I think West Ham make sense.

I think he has that potential defo. To be fair I think Roberts had all the potential in the world when he was younger but it didn’t work it. I think Clarke is a better player now than Roberts has/will ever be and he’s obviously still only 23 so has a few years left before he’s at the top of his game.

I’d like to see him bulk up a bit I know I’m referring to the PL a lot but when you see these wingers now they seem to not just be tricky but also quite physically tough and get stuck in when their normal gameplan isn’t quite working.

I always looked at this model as being like that, it will still take time to get where we need to be, however when done right if we are for instance selling Clarke we would already have is replacement in place and also have someone else probably about 17 to be there replacement when there time comes to leave.
I remember being told the reason Ferguson was so successful at man utd was the structure he instilled in the whole club.
Every level was set up the same as the first team so they always had a ready made replacement to move up, if you look at most of the time he was there nearly every season he only signed 1 or 2 quality players and brought 1 or 2 players through the ranks aswell as moved a couple on.
It seemed to work well for him

Aye fair enough mate, love your opinions. He is a winger, in my opinion, who has a burst of speed over 5 yards, but it is his body shape and movement that set him apart. He fronts up full backs one way, and once they adjust he is gone the other. He is at pace all the time as well. Time will tell, we wont keep him forever and I hope he gets a team that allows him to shine, like West Ham. Burnley eg wont suit. Maybe he sits tight and moves to a Leicester or a Southampton in the summer. Better still he just stays here.

Not a fan of Moyes at all but to be fair West Ham have really brought out the best in Bowen. Would be good to see him get a move to a bigger club like that where there’s not as much pressure on him straight away and he’s got other good players to train with rather than a sh*te team who throw him straight into a team that’s already struggling and expect miracles.

As much as our model frustates me i dont hold Clarke in the same regard as all our other youngsters, hes already been bought for 10m and is proven in this league so selling him wouldnt feel like we've bought on the cheap and selling on to make a profit like we will inevitably do with Ekwah, Hume and Cirkin etc.

If we can get close to 20 for him and invest it i actually think itll make us a better team and not be so predictable and reliant on Clarke

Ridiculous thing to say. Year on year progression, playoff contention in both years in the championship which is such a hard thing to do. How the **** can you or anyone say no ambition with a straight face? Such a lazy thing to say.
