Belgian atmospheres are only really bouncing if you have a Flemish (Northern based) vs a Walloon (Southern based) side. Two different languages, two differing economic outlooks and one country...

Apart from Brugge which has two teams so you get the real local rivalry.

I've been to a Norwegian Premier League match. SK Brann beat Sogndal 6 -1. Good result as they were in relegation zone with a couple of games to go and Sogndal were second in the table. Was expecting the home supporters to go mental but the atmosphere was pretty dead by british standards.

Really? Surprised at that! Sounds like the equivalent of Blackpool beating Arsenal or something.

My family lived in the Gambia for 8 years (before I was born) while my Dad carried out research...There's still a few Toon shirts kicking about the compound where they lived!

Also, the Frankfurt fans: I was in Laos in the summer and met a German lad who was living in Australia, his Australian gf was reading Gazza's autobiography and so the German lad who get steaming and tell me how we were practically brothers...He was at that game and kept telling me how much he loved Newcastle fans...Just reminded of it all there!

You think so wouldn't you! Actually historically Brann are the bigger club with a long history in their top flight who were threatened with an unexpected relegation. In fact they won the league a few years later. So it was more like Spurs or Villa having to beat someone like the Baggies or Sunderland who just were performing well above their normal standard. But they had to win in order to have any chance of staying up. In fact i think they had to win a play-off game even after that to secure their status. Was expecting them to party in the streets but no ...!

Haha very subdued people the norwegians. Apart from Pederson who likes rolling around after being patted on the rib-cage by mr. Barton ;)

Only heard of Brondby (think they're norwegian), Brann and Valerenga in the Norwegian league tbh, so I'll trust you there :)

Yeah what's that Pederson like, the little scamp! :)

Actually Brondby are Danish, but you'll have heard of Rosenberg, they win it almost every year and are usually in the Champions League :)
