So I take it you’re not happy with signing Dragusin for £30m plus a player on loan then? Seeing as he’s 21 and only had one full season with a midtable Serie A club.

Assume van de Ven shouldn’t have been signed either.

Or for the EPL experience and the better prospect of first team football. Not sure Bayern reserves is much good for his career.

We just better hope he’s bloody good now.

To beat Bayern to a player only for him to turn out a disaster would be the most Spurs thing to happen <laugh>

If he went to Bayern he'd basically start three or four games due to KMJ being at the Asian Cup, then get benched

...and the only reason he'd start those games is because Tuchel has already benched de Ligt for large chunks of this season, which is possibly a red flag to incoming CBs

unfortunately my appearances on the transfer thread are merely a cameo compared to days gone by, but I do try my best when I can.

I’m genuinely astonished. Maybe we are becoming a serious club with a joined up plan, as Brian suggests.

however, “I’m not getting excited until I see him holding up a spurs shirt”. <laugh>

I think Don Fabio has had a huge impact on the way the club operates. The man is the single greatest signing we’ve made in a long, long time.

We’ve sort of gone back to our routes of largely signing promising players (with a hint of a Perisic, Maddison and Bentancur) but also broadened out a bit to foreign land too. We used to have great success signing young British players but Kulu, Sarr, Udogie, van de Ven etc are sort of new-ish territory for us and it’s paying off massively so far.

For as long as Paratici is working (or “not” working <laugh>) for us, I think fans can generally look at the club with positive feelings after a good few years of disdain. Especially now with Ange providing a real feel good factor too with style of play.

You make a good point and I'm not going to sit here nitpicking the differences between their career paths and Gil's. One very important difference worth mentioning is that they were both 2 years older when we signed them. I know that doesn't sound like much but imo in the modern game 21-22 yo is roughly when you can tell whether or not a player has "it". Which is why it is pretty clear that the likes of Tanganga, Skipp and Sessegnon sadly don't.

But in principle I agree with you. We have paid the price of making signings from a position of total desperation and have consequently paid significantly over the odds for two players because we were and are desperate after neglecting that position for years. We shouldn't have snookered ourselves in the first place but now that we have, we can only hope and pray that Radu will be another Micky and not another Cheery Cheese. So yes, it's a huge gamble and even a player like Micky who is clearly good, to turn a significant profit on an investment that could reach £46m, he'd have to grow into one of the best defenders in the entire world.

The reason I'm more supportive of these gambles is as mentioned - we are desperate. By contrast we weren't at all desperate for a player of Gil's profile as we already had Bergwijn, Lucas, Son and Lamela himself for the wide positions, which crucially made it a wholly unnecessary gamble and it is therefore no surprise that it has flopped.

So let me get this right.

Radu Dragusin chose Spurs over Bayern which now means Eric Dier is Bayern’s top target?

What a quality Wednesday and it’s not even midday yet
