Nottingham Forest will be losing 6 players to the AFCON, if all selected. Would have been 7 but another is injured. After getting 2 good results this could really hammer them.
I think Anthony Taylor will be quite happy to blow for HT there. It felt like he'd lost control of the last 10ish minutes of that half, all stemming back to his failure to book Joelinton.
Nah. He's reffed it well. Joelinton didn't get booked because as he played advantage, he didn't stop a promising attack. He could have gone back to book him but Liverpool have just lost their **** for no reason. The officials have pretty much got everything spot on. And he didn't lose control, Liverpool did. Hence the yellow cards for TAA and Diaz.
So let me get this right. CAVERT LEWIN tackles Clyne and the referee does not give a foul. VAR intervenes and the onfield ref 'agrees' with the VAR view and sends CL off. Then on appeal authorities agreed this was a mistake and sanctions are rescinded. So 2 u turns. Glad to see consistency is being reinforced. The cry of 'You don't know what your doing' has never seemed more apposite.
I don’t agree with removing VAR altogether but it needs to be scaled back to only handle blatant errors rather than nitpicking, I think this is how it was designed originally, but our officials have found a way to make it as specific as measuring a blade of grass. if they can find a way to automate offsides then it would be much better. Also let the VAR official overrule the decision if they feel it is incorrect, the ref walking over to the monitor is just a waste of time because he agrees with VAR 99.99999999% of the time. Reduce the time it takes and make it less intrusive.
Really it should be binned but it never will. You can't close pandoras box and armchair fans would never accept offsides going against them. Our wonderful sport has been ruined forever. 'Mon the tractor boys!
Honestly, if they simply restricted the use of technology to goal line, offsides and CLEAR errors it would be absolutely fine. Unfortunately one referee's opinion of what is a foul or handball is completely different to another's and that's where the problem lies. VAR's are re-refereeing games and that is unacceptable. If referee's aren't willing to stick with their original decision when they go to the monitor then the threshold for intervention needs to be much higher.
Sorry but I can't agree. The ecstasy of scoring a goal has been ruined and no amount of changes or scaling back will make up for that.
Three appeals. Yeah you can appeal a goal - but if you do then you might pay for it later. Why do we need a second set of officials butting in when nobody has even asked for it. Chuck a flag down within 30 seconds and they can check while play continues.
Totally. As a rough estimate, I'd suggest that about 75% of VAR interventions can be done away with. Probably even more than that. It's far too involved than it should ever be. I still believe that VAR can be good. But how they use it at present is awful. Really, really awful.
Anyone using Saintsplayer for watching football today will have noticed a few issues. In simple terms the system isn’t sharing the numbers logged on across their servers, to balance the workload, but logging them all into the same server, causing an overload, causing outages. They were trying a reboot last I looked.
